Hi all, new member here and I decided to make a post only because I’m stuck on my towing numbers are not correct when adding everything up, I looked on here a number of times, tried to use Ford eits, and even had to try and hunt down a owner’s manual. I have an 06 EB, I do know there is a hitch on the back and it’s not uhual hitch, we did buy the truck from the auction so it could be factory or not. I know her truck has the 3.73 axle, we are trying to pull an Lexus Ls460
We adding the truck 7100+245(me)+2210(autotransport)+4350(LS460)=13,910 if I’m right I would take 13,910-7100=6,810 but I think that number is wrong.

So multiple factors
Ultimately front axle weight and rear axle weight via scale typically are maxed before you ever find the max trailer rating or total max vehicles rating

With a 6000-7000lb trailer generally speaking its knowing your tongue weight vs loaded weights in the truck ie passengers plus tongue weight. Again the rear axle load often sees maxed out numbers before anything else in these cases. Car carrier style trailers its super easy to load the trailer in a manner where the tongue weight is really high. Thats where experience with the trailer and doing a weigh station visit is important

Thanks for the information, I have used uhual auto transport a number of times before just never on a expedition and would have to find a weigh station in Orlando. What would be an ok tongue weight. Also the car I’m picking up is in Texas

Car carrier 15-20% of trailer weight is pretty typical thats fine for the Expedition assuming your not packing 500-800lbs in the Expedition behind the front seats.

It’s going to be two adults and one car seat and nothing else. Going to Texas and back to Orlando.

So I found a few things, our 06 expo does have the HD I saw the 4/7 connector along with the tow limits, the hitch grow weight is 5,000 and the tw is 500. With finding this out and doing so more Research I should be in the clear with a couple hounded or more to spare.

Your door sticker shows you have the 3.73 rear end that’s typically only on the heavy tow pack Expeditions. Sorry thought you knew that.

I did not, I’m somewhat new to the Expedition world, we had an 06 XLT in the past but that was when I was still in my early years of high school before I started doing my own research and really getting into cars and trucks. Having to do all the calculations is somewhat new. In the past I would just use my dads 02 Ram 1500 to pull anything.

If you have the round "Bargman" trailer electrical on the back bumper (to the right of the hitch receiver) you have HD tow -- it only comes with that option. This gives you a 9200/9300 pound maximum towing capacity assuming the truck is empty. 3.73 axles were included in HD Tow some years but not others -- my 2017 lacks them but I think all the V8s HD tows have them. Axle ratio doesn't seem to affect maximum towing capacity.
