I sent an oil sample from my last oil change to Blackstone Labs for an analysis. My Expedition has about 120K miles on it and I've been using full synthetic for a 2-3 years now and before that Synthetic blend.

How worried should I be with the higher then normal iron content of 99 where average is 20.

All other values are in the normal/average range.

Thanks for any feedback.

How does the engine sound? Does it burn oil? My first guess would be camshaft and or followers.

What's been your oil change frequency? Miles/months?

Mileage. I stick to the factory interval eventhough I use full synthetic. Although this change I was at about 6700 miles.

Another possible factor might be that I towed my son's 350Z on a U-Haul trailer about 850 miles, NorCal to Tucson via Flagstaff which does involve some climbing.

What does the narrative from Blackstone indicate? I assume this is the 5.4 V8? Are you drawing the sample mid-oil drain?

Sorry I missed this reply. I have 2015 EcoBoost.

I'm it sure at what point the sample was taken. I'm just about to do an oil change and I will get a new sample. Your saying taking the sample mid drain is best?

I did notice that the oil wasn't appearing really clean shortly after the last oil change, so don't know what that means.
