Tuners are nice because you can put the stock tune back in after you are done towing and it'll help save fuel. I did a little research on the basic bolt ons and all of them are between 13 and 20 hp. K&N cold air picked up 13.12hp @4500 rpm... those numbers are with the hood up on a chassis dyno and a ginormous fan blowing on it. Not worth the money in my opinion.

A Hypertech MaxEnergy programmer picks up 17hp and 27#ft of torque on premium gas. Zero labor and you can uninstall it super fast. $329 its a decent option.

K&N cold air kit. Simple install but real world might only net you 8 hp. $300 its not my first choice. Plus I've had a couple that whistled pretty bad.

Magnaflow exhaust... dyno sheet shows around a 20hp gain and maybe 10 torque. If you're not handy you have to pay to have it installed. Its $618 as well so its not a good hp to $ ratio. But its gonna sound good.

You could add all 3 and gain 50 hp but spend $1300...

I don't think tuning and exhaust will help IF your tire/gear ratios are not optimized for your application. Consider your tire size AND gearing combo....you'd want to maximize the ratio towards low-end torque. My '00 EB 4.6 came with close to 32" tires AND 3.31 factory axle ratio!!! YUCK!!! Yes, it is a SLUG!!! I'm contemplating at least a 3.73, perhaps down to 3.90's, R & P swap. With your gearing squared away, the exhaust and tuning would be awesome. Just my .02 cents.

What gears do you have, the right gear ratio will help a lot with pulling, I have the 5.4 with .355s, does great with a trailer
