Hi, fellow Expy people! Since we got our "new" 2019 Expedition, I've been trying to figure out what this small rectangular opening in the dashboard what for.jpegwhat for 2.jpegwhat for 3.jpegis for. Well, today I figured it out. It's a great place to keep your key fob if it's not in your pocket. Everyone puts it in the cupholder but I think that's a good way to walk away from the vehicle and leave the fob behind. Putting it in this little storage cubby puts it right in front of your face and is hard to forget.

What a coincidence! Driving my “new” 2021 Limited for the first 4 months I used the cup holder area to leave my key and it was just this week that I started using that spot for my key instead!

I wish I had that. My 2021 platinum doesn’t. So damn annoying trying to find a spot for your key.

If you don't have that cubby then you have HD tow (brake controller is in this spot) which is a Big upgrade over non HD tow vehicles.

I bought my expy used and it just so happened to have HD tow. I have nothing to tow, ever, and Have no need for the feature so If I had a choice to have a cubby space or HD Tow id rather have the cubby space. I dont care too much about the 3.73 gearing also. I lose top end speed on the highway with the 3.73 gear as well

Yea, I get it. Our 21 has HD tow and we don't ever tow anything either.. But, I'm glad we have it. It adds resale value for sure and I like having the extras that come along with that package.

3.73 gears come with a completely different and beefer rear axle. You don't get any higher top speed with either gear ratio. I believe these vehicles are limited to 102 mph. You will see higher rpm with the 3.73.
Limited slip diff.
Better engine cooling.
Two speed transfer case with low range.
Overall it's much more "truck like".

Semi-off-topic but on my 2020 (3.31 gears) it's about 15mph higher than that, which roughly equates to the 118 the factory tires are rated for.

Ok, 102 mpg came from a Google search. Regardless, gear ratio does not change top speed limit.
