I always chamfer the edges when I cut anything threaded.Sawzall with a good metal blade and let it rip? Did you have to do any sanding or filing on the bolt afterwards?

Thank you for this brilliant suggestion!Find an open nut you can thread on the stud before you cut it. The nut will serve as a guide - you can back the sawblade against it to cut it square. Then when you remove the nut it will clean up the thread where you cut it.
