Just spent another week at the dealer... they replaced the trailer control module with a known good unit from an Expedition on the lot, which did not address the issue. Despite this, Ford told them the next step is to order / install a different trailer control module. Hmm. Can't wait to see how long this visit is, currently at 11 days at the dealer in the first 5 months / 3900 miles.

Picked up our '22 Expedition Max Ltd in December after ordering in April of last year. We love the overall vehicle and packaging- especially with a young / growing family it's a perfect rig for family trips that easily handles our boat and costco runs. That said, we've had a TON of glitches over our ~5 months of ownership... in no particular order:

+ On 2 occasions, the headlights have turned on when truck is turned off and remained on. Once, I didn't catch it and it completely drained the battery in our driveway. Thankfully on the second occasion, we ran a quick errand and I noticed upon returning to the vehicle. Apparently a known issue Ford is aware of... wild this can happen and battery rundown protection didn't kick in.
+ We have the upgraded trailering package, and the truck has a trailer light fault with a number of different trailers. Dealer has been unable to diagnose despite investigating for over a week (on 2 separate visits), replicating issue, and dialoguing with Ford corporate. Right turn signal and right brake light are therefore currently inoperable on any trailering vehicle. Going in for a 3rd visit this week, to hopefully remedy with a new trailer control module.
+ Truck routinely prompts to select a connected trailer when no trailer is connected. Hoping this is related to a faulty trailer module / issue above
+ 1-touch power front windows (front only, as rear was deleted due to chip shortage) forget they are 1-touch windows at least once a week, which is easy enough to reprogram but incredibly annoying. Never had this issue in any car I've owned going back to 1998 model year..
+ Running boards and auto-fold mirrors decide to operate only on one side. Usually corrected by opening / closing door again or pressing the mirror button, but my wife almost took a spill getting out as her running board didn't deploy.
+ Multiple trim issues.. we had the gap around the gauge bezel and wavy center speaker grill many have commented on, which required replacement parts to remedy, in addition to another trim piece that had to be realigned.
+ Sync 4A 15" Screen shows a Mach-E picture instead of an Expedition a few times per month
+ Random roof rattle behind the drivers headrest near the midpoint of the panoramic roof.

We purchased an extended service plan and intended to keep the car 6+ years, but I'm definitely concerned with the experience to date, which has started to erode my confidence in this being a reliable family vehicle. Disappointing that a platform released in 2018 would still have all these kinks / growing pains, especially one that's trimmed out to a nearly $80k MSRP, though I appreciate many are software driven and perhaps unique to the 2022+..
As others have said, start the Lemon law process, insisting they provide you with a replacement new vehicle and move your extended warranty to the new vehicle. Don’t wait until you no longer have lemon law protection.

>> Assuming it's the same rattle, this drove me crazy for months. It ultimately ended-up being metal fasteners that are holding the sunroof. I had to torque them tighter and the rattle went away.

As for the running boards, our 2018 Expedition is 5 years old now, and driver side running board will retract upon closing the door, only to bounce back and deploy - as if it hit some resistance. Only started happening now.

All vehicles have glitches, and they're mostly electric in nature.

As for the Mach-E picture, that's just product placement :)

Update: 3rd visit complete and trailer lights still non-functional. Now an engineer from Ford is being scheduled to come out for a 4th try. Definitely edging closer to pursuing a vehicle repurchase under Wisconsin lemon law, only hesitations being how long we waited for the car, it's spec'd to our order, and we were locked in at 0.9% interest.. not sure the financing carries over to a purchased car the same way it does on a lease if a lemon replacement occurs.

Wavy speaker grill and other trim fitment issues were addressed under warranty, and sunroof rattle appears to be gone (same cause as what @NyackRob79 experienced with the fasteners).

Financing rates do not typically carry over. Your pricing on the new purchase may not even be protected as you could theoretically buy another brand.

The Law Deal is a negotiation. Get past the dealer people to a Ford Lemon Law Specialist. They CERTAINLY want you to replace it with another Expy, as it costs them half as much as giving you the cash back. Tell them what you expect.

i recently posted a few videos of glitchy shit with my 22 Timberline for the service department to see. It didn’t help. I just got a new transmission this week. Every couple of weeks it’s a completely new thing, and all the dealerships don’t know what to do.

working with Ford customer service has been a 0/10.

Service departments are also not willing to do work on a lot of shit because they are afraid Ford will do a chargeback. Right before Covid Ford changed the way they do service with their service departments. Ford has auditors that gets their pay from looking through warranties after the fact and if the dealership didn’t jump through all the hoops in exactly the correct order exactly the way it was supposed to be done they charge the dealership for the work that was done. So dealerships now aren’t even submitting things to warranty unless it’s an absolute slam dunk.

I will never again buy a Ford because of this one vehicle.
Ford isn't the only manufacturer that handles warranties this way. I'm a technician for let's just say a major European manufacturer, and this is pretty much how they do it as well. It's not fair to say that service depts aren't willing to work on issues, but it is true that warranty work has to be handled in a specific way or the manufacturer will deny it. If a customer brings in a vehicle with a complaint under warranty it's going to be dealt with; we just have to make sure we, as you say, jump through all the hoops in the correct order to ensure there are no issues between the dealership and the manufacturer down the road.

Good luck. Our 2020 that was pre-covid built was the biggest POS we have EVER owned. Super disappointing for a $70k vehicle. So glad we finally got rid of it.

I have been disappointed so far.
1) brake booster failure
2) active grille shutter solenoid failure
3) 3rd row middle seat belt stuck extended from ceiling
4) sync screen fails occasionally

Maybe because it's not my daily but my wife's, I just can't get used or enjoy the 15.5" screen and scrolling through it.

This is the first time, in a long time, I'd consider trading one of my vehicles in based on disappointment.

We had a 2020 Pre-Covid build that we got brand new was a hair under $70k fully loaded and had all of these issues within 18 months.

- wastegate grenaded under 10k miles

- turbo blew shortly after wastegate was replaced- was in the shop for a combined 7 weeks for these two

- we had the randomly shifting into neutral WHILE DRIVING deal ( dealer said they couldn't replicate on their drive so did nothing to fix it and I see now there is a TSB for)

- also had the harsh shifting especially when it would jump gears 3rd to 5th was the worst, dealer reflashed the computer twice with no improvement (also a TSB for this now as well)

- new wastegate started rattling at startup around 15,000 miles

- cam phasers started rattling at 18,000 miles, was in the shop 4 months for this since there was no parts available.

- also had the under hood fire recall issue which took 7 months for a fix

We finally dumped it last year with 24,000 on the clock and got back into a Toyota. I will never own another Ford and will actively campaign against them when possible. I understand shit happens and there are issues on newer platforms but the complete lack of communication or care from both the dealer and ford corporate were terrible.

Currently looking for a new SUV. I'm doing a lot of reading of reviews from people who have actually bought the vehicles, not "reviewers". I'm sad to say, almost every vehicle I'm even thinking of looking in to has reviews that seem to be either good (best vehicle ever, great truck, etc) or they seem to be bad (won't go in gear, POS, trading it in). It seems with even mild refreshes to complete redos, either you get a good one or a bad one. I'm even talking about manu with bullet proof reliability...Lexus, Toyota, etc. It just seems the more "tech" that goes in the vehicles, the worse they get. I understand there's good and bad, but it seems a lot worse than it used to be.
