The latest software makes much better use of the knob that is built into the 15.6 inch screen. A quick touch can bump the settings up and down, it also now puts the knob in control of the temperature or fan or seat a/c etc to easily dial it in to the exact setting you want. This was a huge improvement that loaded a couple of months ago... I liked having the knob for volume control despite having volume as one of the MANY control buttons on the steering wheel, and now being able to use that knob for much more is way better.
It’s better, but I take issue with how much better. There are still too many things that are a pain in the butt to use while driving down the road.

There is a lot to like about the Expedition overall, but the touchscreen is bad enough that i will not just automatically buy one again. And I get that many people are okay with it. Ours is my wife's daily driver and she does not complain about it. She just does not use all the features I want to use.

while all that may be true, you just described why this impacts folks differently. you have 15 vehicles, I don't even have 15 hot wheels cars. so when mine is tied up like this, I can't get the kids to soccer games/tourney's, I can't go to home depot to get materials for my home, or groceries, etc. there are different situations for different folks. So poor reliability (at least my experience) and poor service is what's pushed my away for the foreseeable future.

now having said that, yesterday there was a decent touch. after having to return mine to the dealer yesterday after their tech replaced the wrong front half shaft last week (after having it for 5.5 weeks), they delivered it to me when it was done. definitely helped keep me from having to take my wife from work or order an uber
I think there is some misunderstanding here. It takes all of my vehicles and machines to operate my business daily. If just one truck goes down I have 2-4 employees without a way to get to job sites or transport materials to those site. I used the number to say we have all different brands and that all brands suck. The most important thing you can do when reliability is top concern is to have a local dealership that will bend over backward for your business. I prefer fords over the rest because Two Rivers Ford in Nashville has given me the best service and actively seeks my business. If I lived closer to the Atlanta area I would choose GM as Southtowne Chevy in Newnan GA has given me the best service I’ve ever seen. There service manager is by far the most customer focused I’ve encountered in the car business. If you find a dealer that wants your business like these two,buy from them. I don’t care what brand it is.

I still haven't gotten the recent update to utilize the knob for climate control. I have done the ceremonial update dance 3 times around the vehicle in the recent super moon (jk), I have sacrificed ground squirrels, I have done everything I can to force an update via my modem. But nothing. If we were voting, my vote would be- I dislike the 15' screen and the need to take my eyes off the road to do a task. I guess I could use voice control like others mentioned, but not quite comfortable talking to my windshield with nobody else around. I consider myself adequately comfortable with software, but troglodyte is me.

I've been lucky with several dealers - I had a tire ruined on a trip to Nashville and Wyatt-Johnson Ford was very nice in replacing it under the tire warranty - excellent customer service. On a trip out west, I had another flat tire and Capital Ford in Santa Fe was very nice in replacing it under warranty, once again, excellent customer service. My local dealer is also very good, which is why we've stayed with them since 1987.

Folks, this thread has drifted away from the questions I asked when I started the thread.

I've used the same Ford dealer since 2003. While I've had some issues with this dealer, they've always made things right and they are only 10 minutes from my house. I may not buy from this dealer, because they may not have what I want, but I will probably get whatever new Ford I purchase serviced there. I doubt if I will be patronizing the dealers that you all are talking about. There are lots of Ford dealers in the U.S. If you don't like one, you can always find another.

My relationship with any particular Ford dealer is pretty far down the list of stupid things I might do.

Thank you for paying for depreciation on the 8 different vehicles I have owned since 1971.
Only about half of them were titled as new cars. I generally have pretty good luck with used cars, though I hate spending the time to look for them.

I hear ya. I have 3 ford dealers within 5 miles as the crow flies and I ended up buying from a dealer about 2.5 hours away, because they ended up having what I wanted, I spent 9 months watching for exactly what I wanted in a dealer demo.

When I bought the Durango, I skipped the dealers 10 minutes and 20 minutes from me and bought from a dealer an hour away. If I couldn't have made a deal with that dealer, I was prepared to go to another dealer another hour away.

I'm watching a handful of Expeditions on dealer lots. Some are an hour or more away.

My nearest Ford dealer only has two Expeditions (non-Max) right now and I'm not interested in either of them. When I bought the 2015 Expedition, that same dealer went to a dealer 6 hours away to get the one I wanted.

Didn't catch this earlier, but from this it looks like maybe you are going non-Max. I went that route and for the most part I almost regret it. When you see them side by side there isn't a whole lot of difference, and some of the reasons I didn't want the Max turned into non-issues.

I will say though, having a smidge more cargo would be very nice quite often. With the captain's chairs in the second row, if you have to put the third row down for something, it's not a good situation having stuff sliding around, especially something like a large grocery pickup. Just more overall secure room without dropping the third-row seats would come in handy in a lot of situations. Bigger gas tank would be icing on the cake for most days and definitely road trips. Something to think about and look at in your search. It's probably the one thing I'd have done differently in my purchase.
