I had the same issue. 2006 Ranger that needs the 4L5Z-10K925-AA socket/bulb.
The cheapest I found was $27-28 online.
Then I found this website - https://www.speedometerbulbs.com/
They have this item - Toshiba V2 Black T5 Socket TSD 74 bulb" for $4.99 each.
I have 2 bulbs out but I went ahead and bought an extra 5 for future use, if needed.
They fit great. They are a bit different in that they are sitting vertical versus horizontal once twisted in.
And the contact sits outside the circuit board versus inside with the bulb.

I did the LEDs and while they work, I do not like them. They have to be inserted in a certain orientation or they don't light up. Causing me to check, fix, check etc. Secondly they don't "spread" the light well or are too bright. Example is when I kick on my high beams, the high beam indicator is practically blinding - lights up the whole cabin!. I will probably go back to OEM style bulbs when I get the motivation.

That's kind of disappointing to hear. IIRC, the reason I had bulbs in my Amazon list was because another forum member said that they replaced theirs with LED's and they worked well. My bulb in the gear indicator window is out, so I know I need to replace that one. I'd love it if the light for the gauges had a good spread because I'd like to wire the gauge lights to always be on because I have dark tinted windows and I have a hard time seeing the needle and numbers.

Also, in case anyone needed to know, the vanity light in the mirrors is also a type 74 bulb.
