I was looking at my front drivers side coil over this afternoon and noticed that the wire coming off of the bottom of the shock was going through the coil over itself.

I traced the wire and all mounting attachments had been pulled loose from their holes and the wire was placing a great deal of stress on the under hood connector. As the wire neared the connector it had a red plastic wire loom on it.

I managed to get one Mount to reattach to a hole and to relieve the stress on the under hood connection. It’s better than before but it’s still going through the coil over which bothers me.

I searched google for a good photo of the area to compare against my expedition but didn’t find anything helpful.

So I’m turning to you all.

What’s the wire for? What’s the correct routing (& mounting)? Can you please send a picture of your routing?

I’ve stalked the forum for a long time and love to see the personalization everyone does.

Appreciate the help.

Cheers

No, should not be in the spring assembly. Should route outside of it.
Agreed. As a helicopter avionics/ electrical technician I’m on the lookout for my wires rubbing against the airframe and other parts. Or, those other parts rubbing against my wires.

In this case I would say that routing is not correct. A few things could happen as a result. I’d find another option. Even if you have to use something to tie it back away from it’s current location.

You can use some type of anchor system for zip-ties. Depending on what you’re securing a zip-tie might not be the best option. In that case we use wax tie cord. It comes in different strengths/ colors. If used, I’d go with black to make it more inconspicuous.

Depending on if you’re securing a hard metal line, an electrical wire, or a rubber hose would be the deciding factor on what should be used to secure it in place. Obviously, the harder material would be fine to secure with a zip-tie, or wax-tie. The rubber and wire, could potentially be chaffed and/or damaged from the zip-tie.
