The valve body, from what it looked like to me, has the thermostat that controls the fluid to the external heat-exchanger. My transmission will eventually get up to 206 degrees but not any higher, maybe when the summer time comes it will get a little hotter.

When you split the valve body be careful of the 3 little check valves and 4 to 5 check balls. They will fall out. They are somewhat obvious where they go, but just an FYI that happen to me.

I think a lot of videos and articles miss one important reason to bring the temp of the transmission up to 200-215 degrees to check the level. If you remove the transmission, you have to remove the external coolant line which will dump some fluid that was in the external cooler. If the transmission is not brought up to temp the transmission will need try to send fluid to the external cooler, and will remain empty. So once the transmission gets up to temp and send fluid to the external cooler, the transmission fluid will be low.

My truck is running great. I think what 5280tunage and I need to do now is to clear the transmission adaptive learning to learn the new broken-in valve body. Of course 5280tunage may have had Ford break-in the valve body with the "Accelerated" break in procedure. Forscan does not have that as an option as far as I can see. Forscan is an awesome program, I paid for the full version which was only like $12.

I really believe if I can replace the CDF drum, the outer shell, and all the clutches and steels, and get as far as I have, then anyone can do it. I just watched that transmission teacher and did almost exactly what he said and did and all seems good, for now at least.

Best of luck to you PharmerScott.

Just wanted to give an update on my repair. Well the truck finally hit 600 miles and the truck is running a lot better. I know from many posts that the 10r80 transmission does not like to be rebuilt, so I am crossing my fingers at this point. I did have one issue that gave me a scare, but it seems ok. I was driving a long distance (80 miles or so) on the interstate at around 70 to 80 mph and the transmission temp got up to 239 degrees, I put it into sport mode to raise the RPMs from 1200 to just over 2000. The transmission temp dropped back down to around 223 degrees. After spending a few hours at the office it was time to drive home. On the way home the temp did not go over 208 degrees at the same 70 to 80 MPH in normal mode. Not sure what happened but that was a while ago and the truck transmission temp has not gone over 210 degrees. It's been cold here in Florida, so we will see what happens when the outside temp goes up.

It might have something to do with the external bypass valve being stuck like PharmerScott mentioned. I did flush the cooler and and lines so maybe there was an air pocket or something but I don't think that would have caused my issue.
