The valve body, from what it looked like to me, has the thermostat that controls the fluid to the external heat-exchanger. My transmission will eventually get up to 206 degrees but not any higher, maybe when the summer time comes it will get a little hotter.
When you split the valve body be careful of the 3 little check valves and 4 to 5 check balls. They will fall out. They are somewhat obvious where they go, but just an FYI that happen to me.
I think a lot of videos and articles miss one important reason to bring the temp of the transmission up to 200-215 degrees to check the level. If you remove the transmission, you have to remove the external coolant line which will dump some fluid that was in the external cooler. If the transmission is not brought up to temp the transmission will need try to send fluid to the external cooler, and will remain empty. So once the transmission gets up to temp and send fluid to the external cooler, the transmission fluid will be low.
My truck is running great. I think what 5280tunage and I need to do now is to clear the transmission adaptive learning to learn the new broken-in valve body. Of course 5280tunage may have had Ford break-in the valve body with the "Accelerated" break in procedure. Forscan does not have that as an option as far as I can see. Forscan is an awesome program, I paid for the full version which was only like $12.
I really believe if I can replace the CDF drum, the outer shell, and all the clutches and steels, and get as far as I have, then anyone can do it. I just watched that transmission teacher and did almost exactly what he said and did and all seems good, for now at least.
Best of luck to you PharmerScott.
