I'm currently doing the same towing with the same vehicle and am very happy. No temp problems with the engine or tranny. Very strong and stable.
I don't know if I'm just lucky or if a previous owner did some fix but hope you can get there too.

About 50*F cooler ambient temps probably help too :)

Working as designed, IMO. Lots of miles dragging a TT on mine from new. That temp indication just appears in heat soak/high demand situations. Spirited driving will do it in certain ambient temps as well. Even when it pops up, I've pulled a long grade out west (I probably tow faster than I should) and in 8th gear in tow mode, it rarely stays very long even if you're still in the throttle with turbos spooled in my experience, bone stock max, using tow mode always...
That's great fuel mileage while towing! I usually got about 7 or 7.5 if able to run 93 or higher, not possible out west.

Take a look at this thread regarding the thermostat. My 2019 experienced the same temperature rises while towing. I followed the advice and replaced mine with the redesigned part and have not seen those numbers appear again.

Buy the gasket. It was an easy job, although I wasn't able to drain much coolant when I did it.

I use tow mode and it does its job. I've found if I set the cruise at 63 I can get 12MPG. Yes, 8MPG at 70-75 way too short a range. I do use a wind deflector on the rear rack and get a 10% increase in mileage (12 instead of 11!).

Have you replaced the thermostat? The original thermostat part number was superseded with a revised part. I replaced it on my 2019 and both engine and transmission temp stay much lower now in normal driving and when towing.

I replaced my thermostat with the revised thermostat as well. I went with the 5 degree cooler thermostat. It helped a lot.

You guys getting lower than 9mpg must be hauling butt? My 8900lb 13ft high 9ft wide boat at 55mph is 9-9.5 mpg. Definitely not interested in going faster. Lighter weight rv trailer running less than 9mpg is some heavy pedal pushing.

I still have the 2019 original thermostat. Definitely wondering about the updated version. I see temp spikes but suspect its heat soak given its always up over 2000rpm. Once back to 2000 or less temps cool off immediately.

Update on my temp. spikes. After many people mentioned replacing the thermostat, I replaced mine this week. I wasn't sure if I had the new design thermostat in my 2020 but after removing, it confirmed I had the old design. I replaced with newer one and took my smaller trailer out and it seems to have fixed my temp. spikes as well. I still need to test with my travel trailer but I think that was the fix. The dealer had no clue on how to fix this when I originally brought this to their attention. I ended up doing this swap myself. I don't even think the extended warranty covers this. ( It doesn't cover the poorly designed heater hoses). It is 3 bolts that hold housing on. I didn't bother removing coolant or tubing ( Yes lazy). Made it a little harder getting the one bolt but can be done and it wasn't that hard. My replacement thermostat didn't come with a new rubber seal so make sure you take that off the old one and put on new one. Topped off and ran, and rechecked levels.
