What is everyone using for lube for your running boards? I was using 3 in 1 oil which seemed to work fine for awhile but it ran out...was an old can I had in garage. Time to buy something as they are starting to squeak. Thought I read bar and chain oil somewhere?

That’s what I saw people doing. I spray with the WD40 dry lube and have had pretty good luck keeping them going.

WD40 + silicone lubricant spray.
I soak the all moving parts with the WD40 first. Then open close doors several times to make the boards retract and extend so the WD40 gets into everything. Then let is soak for an hour and then repeat with the silicone spay. I do this a couple of times a year. If they are really dirty like in the spring from all the road salt and crap I sometimes hose it down first to get rid of any crud. Just using a normal garden hose though, no pressure washer.

Oh when I leave it to soak I leave the running boards deployed so they dry out better.

Any updates to this topic? Just curious as my '24 SPP Limited Max running board on drivers side started squeaking.

I’ve been using Seafoam on both of our Expedition’s power running boards at each oil change for 5 plus years. So far so good, I hope I didn’t just jinx myself.

If you live where salt and brine are used on the roads, dont bother trying. I did and failed. I wish someone made a kit to add grease fittings. Then you could get them to work all the time.

This has kept mine going for 12 years in the northeast now. Once every few months.
