Today the driver’s side of the third row in our 2019 platinum expedition refused to fold. It clicks but will not fold or adjust. The passenger side still works like normal.

How can I manually fold these down? Is there a way to do it without taking the seats out entirely?

probably not without messing up a motor. Have you opened things up (like the flaps behind the seat) to make sure there's nothing caught in it? Maybe try and disconnect the battery for 10 minutes or so and see if anything resets.

Some have posted on this forum that the 3-row seat was obstructed and would not fold due to a mispositioned seat belt buckle receiver.

I’ve had a good look around and can’t find anything blocking it including the seat belts. I was hoping there would be a manual override somewhere.

I swear there is a way to "reset" the 3rd row seats by pressing and holding down all the fold down/up button at same time or something like that

Page 162 of the manual states the following. Were you thinking of that?

I’ve tried that too and it’s not working in my case. I’ll have to take the seat right out to figure it out. It’s a massive pain to have no manual way to fold down seats.

I had some friends that had this issue in their explorer and it ended up being the motor was bad. Theirs was under warranty so dealer replaced it but it was stuck halfway and nothing they could figure out would move it.

We just experienced this on our 2021 expedition. We notice the seats didn’t line up when up. What ended up being the issues is the kids had leaned the 3row seats back. They must be fully upright for the lowering buttons in the back to work. We have the lean back functions as a button by the cup holders in back. Hope this helps
