The electronic numbers in the dash that tell you how many miles the vehicle has, comes on and then goes off. Is there a trick to get it to always show, or is it something that requires disassembling the dash to access the circuit board and check for bad solder joints?

Monumental task taking apart the dash. Sometimes it shows up but not really a way to bang on the circuit board since the dash panel has a clear plastic piece over the top several inches away from the panel. UGH

My '03 shows, but it is very dim. It seems brighter when I first start up, then grows dimmer as I drive.

Odometer blanking out, either periodically or permanently, is a known issue with 1st gen Expys (and F150s). Here’s a YouTube link I found in another thread that should help you.

That Youtube video is perfect. I have taken the dash apart before to replace some of the lights. Should have fixed the mileage indicator then but was not making an issue.

I watched a youtube video. Had it done in just an hour or two after years of procrastination. You never lose the accrued mileage, it is just poor solder on some pins that power the VFD tube. The hardest part is the PRNDL indicator. Carefully separate that from the bottom of cluster and remember to put it back. Use care, I ended up with the adjuster broken at the far end of the cable (that I did not touch) and one day I thought the transmission had exploded because I had put it in N instead of reverse. Glue and tye wrap fixed it. Had to crawl under the steering wheel to fix it.
