Just to close this down, it’s finally back together and working (touch wood). The rocker was the only issue I found contributing to the original fault.

I've had a I've had a number seven and a number 5 blowout on my 4.6 L and believe me you know when they pop out you have an exhaust pipe pretty much coming out of your engine compartment. I literally had to buy the kit and rethread both of them to give them more threads to catch on. Since you have your valve cover off I would definitely put some new thread extensions in there so they won't pop out
