looking for some input. I have a Motoorcraft AGM battery just under 2yrs old. Don't drive it much. 44k 2019 xlt. Has anyone desulfined their battery. Charged the battery with a AGM charger and after a 12 hour rest showed 12.23 has a rest state. Seems pretty low after a charge. Just some input please.

Ford OEM batteries are crap. Just getting that out there.

That being said, sitting is the worst thing for an AGM battery, with normal parasitic draw that these modern vehicles have.

What rate did you charge it at?

If 12.23 is the Voltage before starting, you are technically still in the good range, and should be fine. Are you having issues with it starting? Getting the low battery messages from FordPass?

Thanks for your answer/ question. No issues to speak of. I realize all the electronics on this vehicle. Just felt 12.23 range of state of charge was rather middle of the road status. I realize that being a garage queen is not effective for the battery to charge to full capacity. Although, it does stay clean. Lol

By putting it on a charger periodically and manually full charging it, you are doing the best thing you can. Make sure you are attaching the positive directly to the batteries positive terminal, and the negative to a chassis ground like the bolt near the battery on the engine bay metal where you see an existing ground strap attached.

I had a new motorcraft agm installed in Feb 2024. (had the original battery beforehand)

My expy was at the dealer for a 360 camera issue last week and they told me they also replaced (for free since it was under the 3 year warranty) the battery because it was bad, wasnt holding a charge and failed testing apparently.

Something is definitely going on with the Motorcraft batteries. They didnt even replace it with a motorcraft battery. They put in a Napa agm battery. Hmmmm

Pure speculation - but perhaps the Motorcraft AGM battery was not available?

Yep because they are replacing them faster than they can keep them in stock. My dealer buys them in batches of 5 from Napa. Ford reimburses them when they have to use them because no Motorcraft ones are available. Tells you a lot!

I generally do Diehard from Advance. I do the one with the best warranty. So far it has paid for itself a few times in different vehicles in our family and extended family. It has issues, pop in and they swap it out. Always create a customer account and make sure the purchase is made under it. I order online, use all the online coupons but do store pickup. Also get Speedperks from the purchase which helps with gas and random future purchases at Advance. Plus the purchase is in the system and don’t have to worry about finding receipt.

Wherever you go for an oil change, have them do a draw test on your battery.

I recently replaced my Ford AGM with another Ford AGM from the dealership and six months out of the box. It failed the load drop test and they replaced it for free.

Everything else here that has been brought up is pure gold. Best wishes!

Interesting...Maybe I got the last good one? because I was actually impressed with the life I got out of original Motorcraft AGM in my 2020 with 75k+ lot of short trips/worst scenario for battery in terms of keeping it charged. Especially considering how much of a draw there is even when the vehicle is just sitting. Yet I only just replaced it because some of the electronics and the stupid start/stop were getting weird/didn't start back up. I was going to do another Motorcraft but couldn't resist Costco's price on Interstate AGM (Saved about $60 over O'Reilly) I've had good luck with Interstate in my other work trucks so we'll see. Glad I didn't go with Motorcraft from what I'm seeing out of these posts.
