Hello, looking at replacing my old Chamberlain garage door opener, chain driven. It's dead. We have a 7ft double wide garage door. Looking at a bunch of reviews and getting a bit lost. Currently think i have it narrowed down to a Genie 7155 or a Chamberlain 6753T(or the 6713T without the camera). I want battery back up, belt driven, don't want to break the bank but don't really care about the wifi and app stuff. I already have Ring cameras that cover the garage outside/inside. Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks

I've had belt drive, screw drive, and chain drive openers over the years. I installed a chain drive Liftmaster 8587W (now discontinued, of course!) garage door opener 7 years ago replacing a belt drive "Craftsman" that the house builder installed 20 years before. Liftmaster is the same company as Chamberlain. Liftmaster is the claimed more robust "professional installation" opener and Chamberlain the "DIY installation" according to the website -- whatever that means! :)

Completely happy with the Liftmaster. Don't even think about it, it just works. Has some sort of smart App which lets me open/close the door from "anywhere" and closes the door automatically about 2200 daily if I didn't close it. Texts me when opening or closing (in case my daughter stops over). Last house had a Chamberlain with backup battery that I never recall needing to use -- and the battery needed replacement after only two years. But despite never need it I don't see any reason to not have the battery backup nor do I recall why I didn't select it for the current opener. (Gonna see if I can retrofit it. -- Can't, just found the manual.) I'm betting it'll be hard to buy a new opener without the App feature -- heck my new washer and dryer have one!

PA, but I'm NOT really here...where you is ?
Well, I had a LiftMaster chain drive opener installed several years ago, and it is still working just fine today...

And the battery backup came in handy one time when the power was out for several days during a winter storm, but since I installed a rechargeable Lithium Ion battery in it, it just recharged itself and kept on working nottaproblemo :)

As for the app thing, yea, almost anything/everything electric (or gas) has them nowadays....even the gas water heater I had installed in '19 had it, as did the gas stove in '22, and my new OTR microwave in Jan 25...

Absolutely DO NOT BUY A GENIE garage door opener! The Genie used to be the "King" of Garage Door openers but now they were bought out by Capitol Investers a few years back and they are Made in China JUNK now. LIFTMASTER is the BEST available now, in my opinion. As a contractor, our garage door guy, 'Garage Doors by Jeff', will NOT install any Genie garage door opener, at all. If the customer insists on having a Genie, he will refuse to do the job altogether. Just too much trouble and call-backs plus, Genie will NOT back their warranty for parts nor labor. He sells mainly LiftMaster's but sometimes Chamberlin's, if they need a cheaper alternative.

I have, in our home, 2 Genie Garage Door, screw drive operators but they are "20 years old" and still work perfectly. I have only had to change light bulbs in them and they are used 1-3 times every single day! This is no-longer true of the China Genies. I think the investors rode on the Famous Genie name then went China and that, then screwed over the public. Just my person opinion here. I hope it helps some here, Lance
