New to me 2022 Timberline.

Car search started end of last year looking for a midsize SUV with a third row. I have a 2017 Subaru Forster XT so we started with Ascents, then the AC compressor went out in the Forester with less than 75k miles (just out of CPO warranty) and Subaru had a TSB on it a couple years ago but they wouldn’t cover any of the repair cost. So on to other brands… over the course of several months drove a Pilot, Sante Fe, Telluride, GCL Summits, Explorer XT All of them seemed like compromise, big but still didn’t have much room inside, and couldn’t tow, and were a performance downgrade and MPG downgrade from an 8 year old Forester.

So why not go full sized SUV. Looked at and drove Wagoneers, Tahoes, Yukons, didn’t even bother driving a Sequoia. But I none of them really did much fit me and I couldn’t get past all of the reliability issues online. It seems like all newer vehicles cost more while simultaneously being a roll of the dice on getting a POS.

I hadn’t even considered Expeditions bc the exterior styling isn’t exactly my favorite but I started to research them and found a majority of forums were ppl actually enjoying their vehicle and raving about the comfort and feeling. So I drove one and immediately thought “Oh, I get it.” So narrowed it down to a Stealth or Timberline and less than a week later found one that checked all the boxes and feel like we got a deal on it.

And while it isn’t quite as quick around the corners as my last few cars it certainly has enough power in a straight line for an almost 6k pound block on wheels.

Welcome to the forum!

I went from a 2015 Expedition XLT to a 2023 Durango R/T TnG (same suspension and brakes as the SRT without the big engine) then to a 2024 Expedition Limited Stealth Performance. The Durango was much more fun around corners than either of the Expeditions that bracketed it. But, the Durango is smaller and has a lower center of gravity which are big factors in handling.

I hope you enjoy your Timberline!

I have had mine '22 since January, and I have enjoyed owning it. I've appreciated the extra interior space and cargo capacity compared to my '14 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland. It wasn't a complete upgrade, though. My Jeep has an Ecodiesel and air suspension, so it rides a little better and gets better fuel economy. The air suspension in the GC has a little better damping, so there's not as much bounce after going over bumps. They weigh almost the same. The GC is only ~50lbs lighter, so the extra horsepower from the H.O. Ecoboost in the Timberline makes a big difference in the driving experience. It should be pushing 500hp easily now after making a few performance upgrades, putting it on par with the H.O. Hurricane from Jeep/RAM. The first thing I did was swap the fixed running boards for some power boards from Rough Country, though. They don't integrate electronically as well as the Amp boards do, but they have a limited lifetime warranty. They also blend better into the look of the vehicle b/c they are basically the same shade of black as the trim pieces on the bottom of the front bumper and rear quarter panel.
