Good day all! Picked up the new Timberline 2 weeks ago. Did some mandatory light mods (please see below with pics). I included the cost of each mod - everyone always asks how much for this and that. Had a 19 Platinum and it was great for 19 - this new Timberline is sooooo much better in so many ways. I will detail my thoughts after 2 weeks as well below.

First the Mods

1-chrome delete the under window trim around the truck - $300.00
2-got rid of the "Suburu" orange on the front bumper - wrap with Gloss black (looks so much better) - $140.00
3-wrap the rear pillars (c pillar I think) gloss black - changes the whole look of the truck - much better clean lines - $300.00
4-tinted front window - medium - takes the black look through the whole site line - $180.00
5-changed out the chrome lug nuts with the Gorilla units - paid $20 to the tire shop - $75.00
6-removed from plate from bumper - filled 3 holes with amazon plugs - $9.00

the front window tint and pillar wrap along with the chrome deletion of the trim - makes this truck look similar to the NAV and Range Rover look. Not trying to look like those - but the overall sightline is so much cleaner and better - debated to add the Timberline logo back on the wrap - decided it looks much better with the badge with the gloss black background.

The only chrome left is the Ford Logo trims - not sure what to do about those.

My thoughts on the difference on the 19 vs 22

1- Much better ride quality - much smoother ride (that could be based on the 22" wheels vs the 17" with better tire sidewall
2- Steering is much tighter - feel more in control
3- power much better - much more response in the turbos - faster response to throttle - quick!!!
4 -much smoother trans - the shifting gears is much more smoother and not as much jerking going through the gears getting up to speed
5- Stereo much better quality - the stereo on the Platinum was weak and terrible - this new unit is way better (have the 501A package) I can only imagine with the unleashed would be like - seems like they have 3 levels of the B&O system - the standard the Timberline 12 speaker and the Unleashed (even though the sticker says unleashed on mine - it is not the 22 speaker system - at lease I don't think so)
6 - I know people have been complaining about the headlights - my opinion these are way brighter and better - truly noticeable against the 19 Platinum and the new Auto high beam system is similar to the MB - they seem to glow until full bright vs just a quick flash high as before - these lights are in my opinion much better and brighter.
7 - the "big screen" like a lot of other posts - you get used to it quick and i would not change it at all. great big screen easy on the eyes and once you get used to it - easy to use - however some issues - wife calls me almost daily and tells me it turns off in the middle of a drive and you can not change the stereo or AC - you can turn down the volume and if you hit the screen you can here that you are changing things - but blacks out - it seems to be when it is hot outside and when the sun hits directly on the back panel of the top of the screen - when you tough the back panel during a drive - the back panel gets really hot to the touch. (don't know if this is a design flaw and they did not think of that). Also takes about a quick 30 second sometimes at start up to get going - so if I try to make any changes in maybe the first 15-30 seconds it does not respond. Have not have time to take it in to the dealer
8- the Green interior looks great - in fact when I brought it home my wife thought it was a dark grey at first - does not have that super green look. It is cool though!
9- The gas mileage seems to be about the same as the 19 Platinum - about 16-17 miles - we drive city and heavy footed
10-i tried the cruise control and turned on the lane assist at the same time - took my hand of the wheel and it actually followed the curves (some pretty curvy roads as well) and actually felt like self driving until about 15 seconds and the warning lights and sounds started going off about not sensing any hands on the steering wheel. Pretty cool for about 15 seconds. I would not really trust or rely on it though - as I know it was not designed for self driving. But cool to try out.

I read this forum all the time and appreciate everyone's post's they help and I get a lot of info. I hope this helps some and let me know your thoughts.

I will tell you it was an adventure getting this Timberline- I had ordered a Green one back on Nov -the first order at the dealership - still have not received that unit - in fact just got an email from Ford that the part hold has cleared and back into production - I have not called the dealer to cancel. will let know when it comes in. Found this one on the Expedition inventory list back in March - worked out a deal with a different dealer and got MSRP - $500 if I agreed to give them my 19 Platinum - then of course it took 2 months to Ship to CA. Unbelievable. Anyway have it now and stoked on it after not knowing what to expect. Good luck everyone!

On my Timberline on a recent trip I had to change where I put my radar detector. I had it in the middle bottom and sometimes it would block the light sensor and the screen would go dark mode, not off. If your goes off then its another issue. Make sure system updates are on.

First thing I did was black out the white letters on the tires. Hate white letters.

The lane centering I use in some cases. Typically in cruise control I have it off but if the road is very straight not much traffic OR very windy I will turn it on and its great. But most other time I leave it off. For the lane assist which is non cruise control I set it to vibrate and it really feels like virtual rumble strips. I leave it on all the time.

When using either you have to activate your turn signal when switching lanes. It will disable lane centering/assist for a few seconds.

Thanks for this. I was debating on the C-pillar wrap based on the Timberline badge. now that I see your, I know that is the route I will take.

thank you for the info - no this is not dark mode - it is full black out. Quick question - how did you black out the white letters on the tires?

Lou - the black Rhino Chambers are bitchen - I was looking at those - do you have any pics? I would love to see how they look on the white Timberline. Also if you don't mind - what was the cost for that set up?

You got lucky. I just got home from getting it washed. :)

First is unwashed and second is washed. Sorry for the crappy pic. I think my phone lens was dirty and caused the sun to create a glare.

How easy was it to 'wrap' the orange line? Or did you pay someone $140 to do that?

I was thinking about masking off the whole front end and spraying the orange line with Plastidip, but wrapping sounds cleaner.
(I have zero experience with Plastidip or wrapping.)

Somehow... that orange line has got to go. I want the orange on the tow hooks gone too if possible.

Timberline - I paid someone $140 - a little high in cost for what it is. He was mobile and came to my house - so I would say should not be more than $80-$100 if you take it somewhere. It literally took him like 5-7 min on that part - but he did all the other trims that same day. Hope that helps. I know you can order the 3M gloss black vinyl through Amazon with a starter kit for like $25.

On the hooks - I would plastidip those / should be fairly simple. Just mask off the surroundings and spray like 4 coats. Lots of YouTube videos on Facebook plastidip.

Good luck
