I have a 2003 expedition. The front fan blowers work, but will not blow heat in the winter or AC in the summer. It is the outside air. The back blows cold air and hot air. I replaced the front actuator between the glove box and radio. Still ambient outside air. Anyone solve this before?

Following the blend door actuator replacement have you verified it's closing when commanded to at the DATC?

Does the A/C compressor engage when A/C is selected? I realize you may not feel cool air inside, but if the compressor doesn't engage you may have a an issue with the DATC module.

The other thing to check is if the hot water valve opens with heat is selected at the DATC?

If the DTAC module is suspected you can initiate a self test. Here's how from @Hamfisted

DATC test.

Key - ON / AC - OFF
Push the OFF and FLOOR buttons simultaneously / Release and push the AUTO button within 2 seconds of release.
Let head unit run through it's test ( 30 sec ) .
Note code displayed ( B-code ).
If no faults all digits will illuminate. Press DEFROST to exit test or reset system.

I ran the second test scenario and got no errors. The air will switch from defrost to front to floor fine. It is not hot or cold just current outside temperature. Any other thoughts on solutions? Thank you for that diagnostic link!

You’ve got two actuators… blend and mode. Blend gives you temperature variations. While mode directs where the air is blown.

Also, there is a door in the fan/ blower housing. You’ll have to pull the blower motor to get access. What happens is the apparatus that moves the flap breaks off.

Worked on an F150 and found this to be the case both by research and pulling it apart. If this is your issue you have a few options. Main two being to either replace the entire housing, or open it to manipulate the flapper in a closed position. Then, you’ll have a/c and heat.

However, no outside air for fogged window purposes. We live in Arizona, so the owner wasn’t concerned about foggy windows.

Remove the blower and I can put my hand in there to feel the door open. I can manually close it with my hand and heat and cold will flow with no outside air? Basically recirculate only with heat or cool.
