My 2013 XLT was running poorly about a year ago. I heard a ticking and thought that she had an exhaust leak. The mechanic diagnosed a faulty coil. I had him replace all the spark plugs and the bad coil. He said the ticking was the coil, but she was still throwing a P0330 code for the knock sensors. I was leaving for Texas in days and delayed any further reapairs. Once in Texas, she went back into the shop for new knock sensors. The mechanic at that time told me that his code reader, may a Snap On, I'm not sure......but it told him that there was another repair that had a higher percentage of correcting the problem than the knock sensors. It was even more expensive and I gambled to just do the knock sensors. I left Texas for 10 months shortly afterwards. I came home last month, and my wife tells me the Expy never did run good the entire time I've been gone.
Of course, after all this time, I cannot remember what the alternate diagnosis was. The symptoms are still a ticking that sounds like an exhaust leak and the P0330 and P0331 codes, and an extreme lack of power. I can get to 70 mph, but not easily.
Has anyone seen this before? Any idea where to look? Does anyone know where I can find the Ford 2013 Engine Performance Manual for the pinpoint test?
