Hi all!

I have a 2018 Expedition Platinum with 130k miles on it. That good ol check engine light came on and ran a reader and it came back with the code P2240 - O2 sensor Positive Current Control Circuit open bank 2 sensor 1.

Wondering if someone had a step by step DIY to help me replace the O2 sensor. Couldn’t really find anything so any help would be great.

Thanks in advance!

The same on mine keeps going on and off this past month. Is it really just the 02 sensor?? Can anyone else weigh in on this? I'm sure it should need to be done anyway- I'm at 190K

It's the O2 sensor. P2240 came up on my 2019 Expy around 135k.
Seems to be a common issue with these 4h gens

Usually the other O2 sensor goes bad not too long after the first one, needed to replace both upstream sensors on my 2019.

Everything seems to be built cheaper these days, 247k on my 2010 Expy and still on original O2 Sensors.....

I agree. I was on FB marketplace and I found my actual truck. Currently has 520K on the original engine and transmission. I sold it at 380K because I couldn't tolerate the rust.. I did cats in it and the only other major expense was the tune ups- the first being the worst (the initial/traditional spark plug issue). The other 2 expy's i had in between I got rid of around 250k except I just wanted a newer one those times.

I didn't find much as far as threads for this generation. I'll look a little harder but was hoping someone had written something up so I would know if this was DIY'able. I'm not the best mechanically inclined (I understand how everything works as, lack the tools and space to do it). I'll have to youtube or google harder lol

Just an update, no changes in anything as far as codes after I did the recall, periodically comes on and depending on my driving will stay off anywhere from 6-10 miles or 200-300 miles and come back after clearing. I typically see it come on when starting (remote start actually) and doesn't come on in the middle of a "trip" (whether it be a short or long drive). Looks like I'll be replacing them both (might as well).

Should I be looking for Motorcraft or Bosch replacements? Don't want to spend a ton- but most importantly get the right parts... whats the best value between the right part and right place? Searching on amazon is seemingly suspicious

my long term experience with O2 sensors is they start failing around 100K miles.

Bosch is almost always a good choice on European cars with Bosch injection, but I dunno who makes the emission controls on our EcoBoosts, so Ford/Motorcraft is probably the right choice. Newer vehicles have two sets, one in front of the Cat, and one in or behind the cat, they are different, and of course with two cats on a V6, you'll have 2 of each.
