First of all, I want to say a HUGE thanks to all of the members of this great community. Without you, I would have already given up on our Expy about 3 years ago when the magical phaser debacle started happening and the dealer refused, stating it was normal. At that point, I would have likely moved on, but found out about the Ford Customer Relations Line through this forum, I never knew such thing existed and that finally got our local dealer to order the parts and put us in line. After a couple months of back and forth phone calls and updates on the progress and wait time for parts, they finally fixed it and we (my family included) don't have to cringe after every morning start.

Next thing that you bunch of wonderful people did for us is save us about $1k in brakes. I used to be a stricktly "OEM parts only" type of guy, but the Ford Motorcraft Brakes are so bad and expensive at the same time, that I had to head back to this forum. After deciding on the Powerstop Z36 Kit (100% recommend), our Expy felt like a sports car and the confidence/satisfaction after every single drive went up 1000 times, so thank you for saving us a grand while making our drive so much more enjoyable.

The final straw is the infamous transmission clunk/shudder/slam. I brought it in to a different dealer to get it fixed twice, but both times, all they did was a reprogram and refused to do anything else, stating that they would reprogram at least 3 times before doing any mechanical work, as our warranty is ending in a couple of months... so that is that. Instead of calling Customer Relations again, and spending countless of hours on phone calls and countless of visits/agruments with those stealerships, we decided to get an LX570!

Things that we will MISS very, very much (NEVER CHANGE FORD!):
- Free Lifetime Remote Start and Ford Pass App. Believe it or not, the $100K+ Lexus when new still require their owners to pay $8 monthly to get the Enform App to get remote start. I also heard that the LX uses 3G and now that it is discontinued, the App and therefore remote start isn't even available (Lexus disables key remote start if the vehicle has Enform capability, ugh!), so good on Ford for giving their customers key remote start AND lifetime Ford Pass access which is AWESOME!
- Touchscreen/Carplay. LX570 has neither! My passenger will have to control everything with the ******* mouse joystick thing.
- Space! The Expy Max is HUGE compared to the LX, especially with that 3rd row and the extra cargo room in the Max. Moved with it 3 times and my family members love it, but you can't have everything. Family will have to suffer :evillol:
- Platinum seats are AMAZING
- 87 Octane & consistent fuel economy. While our expy doesn't get great mileage (16l/100km or 14.7mpg) on regular, it's pretty good for it's size and especially for it's power (the boost from those turbos are crazy). Best part is, it doesn't care if I'm doodling in the city or pushing it at around 100 on the highway, or throwing it around canyons, it always gets around 16 liters.
- Auto Park is fun to have! The whole family would cheer whenever it get's in perfectly. Pretty useful feature if you're patient and trust it enough, but I believe they also removed it for the newer Expy :(
- The Lock/Unlock Keypad! This Ford invention is AMAZING and we use it all the time! Will definitely be tapping on the B-pillar of the Lexus like an idiot, trying to get it to unlock lol.

Things that Ford NEED to improve:
- Service
- Service
- Service
Seriously, the Expy has been pretty solid, no catastrophic problems that have left us stranded before. That said, we only put 60k km (37k mi) on it. It's just the little annoyances that add up (also doesn't inspire confidence), especially with these Stealerships that put the Blue Oval on their facade. Tbf, the only thing that we paid for so far is fuel, oil and brakes which is how it should be. Cam phasers, rear camera washer not working and tranny programs are all covered, but it just takes SO MUCH time and effort to get those things covered and don't even try with smaller things like interior rattles and the very inconsistent transmission clunks, you will always get the "Oh, that's normal". Those things really drove people like us back to a Toyota product instead.

Anyways, enough of my ownership yap, hope you all don't mind too much. I will try to return the favor by staying on this forum and answer the few questions that I can help with. I don't mind sharing our experience with the LX in several week when I pick it up at all, so feel free to ask for those who are interested! For the last time, thank you to my fellow Expedition owners. You have done so much for our ownership experience, 100x more than any dealership have and you are really helping out the brand here. Ford would have lost so many customers earlier without this forum.
Next, you'll probably find me complaining about this premium fuel guzzler on lH8MUD (11 MPG, 91 octane) lol!

Congrats on your new purchase!

This board has been very helpful, and I’m thankful for the info we’ve learned as well.

We’ve had nothing but problems with our ‘19 Expy Platinum Max (and previously an 18 Platinum Max) so we’re selling it to our local Ford dealership this week and have already purchased a 2019 Toyota Sequoia Platinum hallway across the country that we’re having shipped to us :)

Man that sucks to have to downgrade size vehicles, but I can see why after all that.

Do the power stop pads dust bad? I’ll need to change my rear brakes soon. Don’t want to have dust everywhere. That’s one thing I can say for the stock pads. I out EBC daily driver type pads on my wife’s car and they pour dust out like a maid.

For me, I don't personally mind the extra dust relative to the extra performance you get out of these pads and rotors. It is more dusty compared to OEM brakes, especially if you pay attention to your wheels a lot, but tbh I don't, so I just enjoy the extra bite and durability of these Powerstops :)

Wow, that's a lot of patience that you got there! I would have never had the patience to give the car another chance. How are you liking the Sequoia?

Active Park Assist 2.0 is standard on Platinum series for 2024. Not available on lower series.

I've been enjoying reading posts in this forum and I've learned quite a bit. I've owned two Expeditions, a 2002 and a 2015. I traded the 2015 for a Dodge Durango R/T. But, I'm finding that other than the exhaust sound that the HEMI V8 makes, I'm not really enjoying driving the Durango. So, I've been contemplating going back to an Expedition.

I've owned several Fords and there's a halfway decent Ford dealer within 10 minutes of my house. They're good, but not perfect. During an oil change on the 2015, their tech noticed that my 3rd brake light wasn't working and the diagnosis was burned out light bulbs. "Ok, replace them," I said. First time I ran that Expy through a car wash, the 3rd brake light came loose and was hanging by the wires. Back to the dealership to point out the problem to the service writer. "Er, um, looks like the tech forgot to put the screws back in after replacing the bulbs," he says. The service writer then replaced the screws and gave me coupons for 2 free oil changes.

You are correct. Service, service, service. Ford is at the mercy of their franchised dealers. Same for all manufacturers. Some dealers are good. Some are just bad.

What year is your LX 570? I really like the new LX 600, but the price! Oy!

I was looking at a new 23 GX and the sales guy was pointing out the features. "Look, real wood on the console". Yeah, I got that. "Rear A/C vents". Yeah, I got that. "Look at the remote key fob". Um, where's the remote start? "Oh, that's only thru the app". Huh? What? "Oh, it's included". Oh, for how long? "One year". What? Then what? "You just download the app". Is it free? "No". How much? "$96 a year". Mine's free...on a 6 year old truck. OK, never mind. Oh, and yes, premium fuel.

I had a similar experience with mine. It was a great family vehicle, however i have to admit i didn't feel like the vehicle would hold together much well beyond 65-70k sadly based on the way stuff was rapidly falling apart. Transmission was also the final straw for me as well and i knew ford was going to play the run-around game forcing me to come back 3-4 or 5 times before actually getting it in to replace something that wasn't going to fix it and then have to keep coming in until i'd get basically a new old stock transmission with the same problem thats going to creep up again. My understanding was that they didn't retroactively fix any of the past transmissions UNLESS they took it apart and fixed it. Most shops were flat out removing and replacing them with "new" units. From my understanding they just kept throwing in the stockpile of new affected ones they had until they run out, and then going forward all new vehicles would have the fixed transmission supposedly.

Anyway, wife an i downsized to a 2024 VW Atlas and are happy with it. It doesnt have the space the expedition max did by any means but still checks all the boxes and still good enough for a family roadtrip vehicle. I'll re-visit for in 5-10 years once they have their quality issues sorted.

Good luck.

I’ll be replacing my Expedition probably this spring, but will not consider another Expedition due to the repeated poor service from Ford and their dealers. I just had another service debacle last week at my Ford dealer involving my Expedition.

Poor service drives customers to other manufacturers. No doubt about it.

It's a 2018, but they still go for really high prices around here considering it's 6 y/o vehicle

Oh, and yes, premium fuel.
And it guzzles premium fuel. The most annoying part is the Land Cruiser exist that runs on regular, but Canada doesn't get those!!! I would have gone for the LC. Better styling imo, and regular fuel only, but it would still guzzle it like nothing else!

EDIT: oh yeah, there is actually an aftermarket unit for like 300 bucks to permantly get remote start and not deal with these stupid subscriptions, so that might be what I'll potentially consider

Just remember, all good things seem to come to an end, i.e. even the keypad on the B-Pillar is going away. Their "telematics" show it doesn't get used much so they cut it out but continue to increase the prices. They say it saves like $15 per vehicle, but for those of us that like it, too bad. Everyone is trying these stupid subscriptions, it's gonna be a nightmare. Not long and you really won't own anything, you'll just be renting it. I say renting because at least a lease used to include all of the functionality a car was built with, but even leases are requiring subscriptions.

I'm very much in the same boat as the OP, but man there are so few other choices that make sense out there.

Wow, such an amazing invention of Ford, but they're already thinking about cutting that feature to save 15 bucks.

These subscriptions are truly nuts! And that's why we're all impressed that Ford still offers Ford Pass for free! I believe they're the very few, but I don't really know any other brand that still does this. Good on Ford, hope they keep it that way!

I truly get that, the LX570 is a BIG compromise and is definitely not for everyone. The first couple of years that we used to live in the rural area, it's the been perfect. Ever since we moved to a denser city, it's flaws arise and problems started happening. She def hates it in the city, our Expy!

I hate to say this but they ALL suck. I've had Yukon Denali, Escalade, and several Benz. All sucked in different ways, all ended up with big dollar repairs during ownership. Just traded a loaded Benz GLS550 that cost a fortune. 21 inch tires that latest 20k miles MAX, AC evaporator went out at 75k, air suspension ($3k repair) and as you mention I had to run premium. Good luck with the next ride.

We have owned four Lexus. For perspective I have owned about 80 new four wheel vehicles in my life. Other luxury/near luxury brands includes two BMWs, two Audis, four Infiniti, four Acuras.

Lexus is by far the most reliable and the dealer service is the best. Congrats on the new LX.

We would totally be in an LX again (had an 80 and three separate 100 series) if we didn’t have 3 teenage kids and need the 3rd row on a daily basis.

Several friends that own Lexus vehicles have said the same. They rave about the dealer service, and the quality and reliability of their vehicles.
