Hi, I recently purchased a 2013 expedition el and it came with 2 keys. One key would start it fine with no issues but the buttons were broken and didnt work for lock unlock operation, hatch open and panic worked fine. The other key which is cut the same and looks worn from being used but the lock unlock buttons click whe pressed didnt work when put in the ignition and turned to on, the dash would display key not programmed. I thought due to it being a key programming issue I would run the erase keys and learn keys procedure using forscan hoping it would solve the issue and both keys would start the expy. Went through the procedure and now it only shows one programmed key and now it wont start with either key and set code for theft attempt. Im guessing something is wrong with the key that didnt have the messed up fob. I ordered new keys and will get them cut and retry the procedure using the key that used to start it as the master. Has anyone been through this issue? Not really sure where to go if this doesnt work, any input would be appreciated, thank you

I have never used Forscan only the IDS. With IDS you have to access the security program which takes 10 minutes. Then you can program keys.

Without IDS and only one working key I go to a locksmith and pay $80 for him to make a second working key. With two working keys you can program extra keys yourself. I wanted genuine Lincoln keys for my new to me 2003 Navigator so I went to my friendly local Ford and ordered blanks. They read the one used original key to get the code and then laser cut the new Lincoln blanks. I now have a new set of factory keys, fobs are easy to program. The 2003 Lincoln keys have a separate fob.

Thanks for the reply, forscan accesses the security program which takes 12 minutes of wait time before it will allow the erasing or programming of keys. When I get the new keys I will try using the old one along with a new one to see if I can get it out of the lock down. If not I will try the lock smith route, Ill keep everything posted as I go. I have done numerous keys, fobs, and module programming in fords, dodges, and chevy's and never ran into this issue, its weird how that second key acts like its almost corrupted or something if that would even be possible.
