Hoping for some help from the experts here. Upon cold start, the Oil Temp Gauge does it's on routine but then immediately points to top center of the oil temp circle. Obviously the oil is "cold" and not at full operating temp as the gauge displays.
IF when cold I only turn on full accessory power by pressing start button without the brake applied the Oil Temp gauge does the on routine, then points to top center for a moment and then falls to a level just below the 1/4 "notch" on the gauge.

I began to notice this shortly after the dealer did an oil change. I brought it back to the dealer to address the oil gauge under warranty and upgraded to the fancy NKG95605 spark plugs you all love so much. Dealer said the spark plugs were installed but they have not figured out the oil gauge mystery yet so I picked up the car and drove it home.

Attached a two pics... Engine running a few seconds after cold start and a few seconds after Accessory Power turned on with Engine off. Any ideas to help direct the dealer solve the mystery would be much appreciated!

Thats the oil pressure guage. Your guage is normal. That is not a temperature guage

The oil pressure should be in the middle of the range when engine running (even just after u started the car cold)

The guage to the far left is your engine coolant temperature guage, the next is the Oil Pressure Guage, the next is your Turbo PSI and then the far right is gas level (with miles till empty)

Much appreciated. So looks like I put the service advisor on a wild goose chase. So no oil temp gauge in this rig? I have a 4.8 Cayenne Turbo S with oil temp and water temp gauges and I watch the oil temp for I get the Turbos spinning! Guess it took me 2.5 years and 13K Miles to notice the oil gauge on the family hauler! Thanks again

My oil pressure gauge on my '22 behaves exactly the same way yours does in the screenshots that you posted.

What I find puzzling is why the the oil pressure gauge displays aprox. 1/5 of full scale with the engine OFF. I would assume that with the engine and oil pump not rotating that the gauge would read ZERO.

I have heard rumors that modern engines have backup oil in a pressure vessel to insure instant oil to the bearings when the Auto Stop Start system restarts the engine. Perhaps the gauge is reading that pressure with the engine off. Thankfully, Auto Stop Start was deleted from my vehicle due to the chip shortage.

At least you knew it was oil pressure and not oil temp!

My Durango R/T TnG also has an oil temp gauge, though you have to jump through some hoops to get it displayed on the panel in front of the driver or on the center stack. I watch it pretty closely on cold days.

What's worse about the Expedition not having an oil temperature gauge is the lame oil pressure gauge. The circuit uses what is basically a pressure switch--you either have oil pressure or you don't. I used to have a 1995 Explorer which started showing "low oil pressure", or so I thought. Kinda freaked me out. Once I learned the full story, it was an easy job to replace the switch and get the "gauge" back to normal.

Sadly, you ain't drivin' a Porsh any more. ;)

Your temp gauge is engine coolant temp which relates to oil temp. but there is no way to get actual oil temp, unless you found a 3rd party system.

Engine oil temperature might be available through the OBD II port using a dongle and Forscan Lite.
