You are correct, it is not only 'chips' or wiper motors. It is everything. The supply chain is brutal. Hopefully, this will be a lesson for our manufacturers. There is so much sourced from the "far east", and it is crippling us. This isn't the first time, back in 2011-2012 when the Tsunami hit Japan, our 2012 Explorer, which we ordered, was put on commodity hold because of PAINT!! It was ordered as Kona Blue, but the pigments and pearl flakes were sourced out of Japan, but it could not be produced because of the issues with Japan and the Tsunami. Luckily, it was only paint, and we were told that it would be painted in an order color, Dark Blue Pearl, which ironically was the color of the vehicle that we were trading in.
Hopefully, this has taught our North American companies a lesson. The downside to moving domestic, even that we can, is cost. We're already paying a premium on these 2022's because there's a shortage of them and the dealers are selling at MSRP or higher. I never paid MSRP, BUT I guess I'm okay with paying that if I could purchase/order a vehicle with ALL OF THE FEATURES, and have it built and delivered in a reasonable amount of time.
