Hello! My husband and I are going to hopefully be buying a 2019 expedition tomorrow. I was looking into the carfax and saw there’s 2 active recalls. I don’t quite understand the 2nd one. Do we not buy it or is it easy/cheap to fix?

There are lots of posts on this forum about the two recalls you cited. Try a search.

The seatbelt retractor involves replacing the front seat belt assemblies due to unintended activation of the (explosive) seat belt pre-tensioner without a collision.

The reprogramming eliminates a potential false trouble code being stored, with a check-engine light illuminating.

It is illegal for a car dealer to sell a motor vehicle with open safety recalls. It is not illegal for a private individual to sell a vehicle with open safety recalls.

I would not drive the vehicle until the seat belt safety recall is completed - there are posts on this forum documenting the pre-tensioner exploding / activating while a person is driving the vehicle.

It would probably be in your best interest to purchase an extended vehicle service plan, due to the numerous engine and transmission issues with that model year.

If you like it buy! Those recalls are no big deal. Reading some of these posts one said not to drive it. I'm trying to figure out how you'd get it to the dealer so the recall could be done, if you didn't drive it.

We already discussed this on another thread. Also, I'd be more worried about the transmission than these recalls. Have it properly checked out.

I had all 3 recalls performed.
I was ground zero on the seatbelt retractor. Mine actually exploded, sitting at a traffic light.
With that said, if you are purchasing from the dealer, have them perform the recalls before purchase.
If you are purchasing from a non-dealer car lot or individual, set an appointment to take the vehicle in for the recalls. They are free and any recall helps prevent future issues.

Buy it, these are normal simple things that are easily fixed. Seatbelt really isn't normal, but you catch my drift.

I would think that Ford is obligated to repair. It is after all their recall.
Well...for one, we don't know if the dealer in question is a Ford dealer, for another, again, what if a remedy is not available?

I'm of the belief that once a recall has been issued it is the responsibility of the company who made the vehicle to honor the recall no matter who presents the car/truck for the repairs listed in the recall.

That's exactly correct. But it is up to the owner to take the vehicle in to get the service. I think there is a time frame because I purchased a 2002 ford vehicle that had several recalls, but Ford would not honor it since it was 2020, lol.

Hmmm, could be that they only repair the recall before the warranty expires after that your on your own?

Ford will fix the recalled problem at no cost to you. It doesn't matter if it's out of warranty.

Prophetic post right there. Just picked it up from having both recalls done, tensioners fell into the bad batch and had to be replaced, AND I had to have the transmission rebuilt. Again. Sigh.
