2001 Eddie Bauer 4x4, 5.4 engine. Approximately 345,000 miles. Occasionally the engine would run rough but clear up within a few moments. When this happens it is usually accompanied by a flickering theft light. I first noticed this last month several hours into a long drive. I had it checked out at a local shop but there were no codes shown. It ran fine for several weeks but it is back now. This morning it went very rough again with the flickering theft light. It also ran rough stopped at a light but cleared up as soon as I took off again. When it happened this morning, the engine wasn't all the way up to normal operating temperature but is has happened at normal temps. There was no "Service Engine" light flash to indicate a misfire and the light is currently off. I'm wondering if the theft system could be triggering the problem. It normally runs fine.

Well, I bit the bullet and replaced all the coil packs and spark plugs. It hasn't happened since, but it's only been a few days. I'm not how the starter solenoid is related to the issue but if it comes back I'll try that.
