My 2004 Expy makes a rumbling noise and vibration when turning to the right. This starts as soon as the wheel is moved to the right of center (ie: making a steering correction to the right), and continues from there. It seems to be coming from the left front corner.

The noise and vibration aren't noticeable when the wheel is moved to left of center.

I had the truck aligned hoping it would help, but no such luck.

Does this sound like a bad front hub?

Thanks

This sounds like you need to have it checked by a competent mechanic ASAP. I would also recommend that you drive as little as possible until you get this issue diagnosed. I don't mean to be alarmist, but, I have known people that have had suspension items fail and careen uncontrollably into freeway walls. Get it checked!

Usually rumbling is either hub or CV axle. When you turn in a tight circle going right, does it feel like the wheel skips or hops? If so its most likely a CV. If not and it just keeps grinding, its probably a wheel hub. I have replaced way more wheel hubs than CV axles so the hub is a good place to start anyways. They are not any harder to replace than brake pads, but if you do replace it, be prepared to replace the rotor as well as they tend not to break loose from the hub. They usually rust in place.

The fact that it only makes noise when turning and it sounds like grinding/grumbling tells me its probably not a suspension component and is more likely a driveline component. Suspension tends to be more of a hard clunk or high pitched squeak. Doesn't mean it is any less critical (hub blows apart and the wheel comes off) but you would have to drive it like that for a very long time (months) before it would get to that point.

Thanks for the replies, and my apologies for my delayed response, EU.

There's no binding in a tight turn, so I'll pull the hub(s) once I get the go ahead from my surgeon (*&^# neck surgery).
