Wow! Thanks for posting. A friend of mine just told me about this earlier this morning! I just inspected mine and the gap is way bigger than 10mm. I can stick my finger between without hitting either side. In fact my thumb fits. Both of the clamps look good too.

@zeecarr : Thanks for confirming my hope, that potentially affected Forum members could visually pre-inspect their vehicles to determine if a found substandard condition supports an urgent call to the dealer to schedule their prompt response, since provision of an Owner Notification Letter is not required for them to act.

While it will still be necessary to have your vehicle formally inspected under Safety Recall 25S47, you and others may gain confidence by taking a quick look under the hood before contacting a dealership.

Good luck!

I'm actually impressed that Ford asks inspectors to just use a 10mm drill bit as a testing tool. I'm surprised they didn't pay some tooling company a few million bucks to create some kind of 10mm testing tool just for this, all made in China and shipped to every dealer in the nation. Wait for it, is DOGE doing it's thing at Ford now? Sorry, too soon. But hey, in all seriousness, Brakes are so important, i truly hope no one experience brake failure, I have one time and thank god it was in a vehicle that still had an easy to pull hand brake in the center console, and I was on a straight, dirt road.

The recall notice states that clearance must exceed 10mm, and the brake line must be properly secured. I verified both using Mitutoyo calipers and confirmed that the brake line is retained with clamps. For reference, an average male index finger width is about 14mm—if you can pass a finger through it, the clearance is sufficient.

We got a text two days ago from our dealer's Mobile Service department about this, and I thought it might have been some sort of scam because we'd never dealt with them before and I'd not heard about this recall. Yesterday morning the tech arrived and showed me his 10mm drillbit, and my Expy passed no problem. I laughed about it--"heck I drive in Eco mode with the lightest touch and would never torque the engine enuf anyway!"

Have to admit I was impressed by the dealer's response--might use them again in the future. It was a very nice day and fun to have this done on my own concrete garage apron.

I also received this recall and I have a 2021 with a build date of 8/21. I checked mine it I have 25+mm of clearance. However, I also just received another emissions related recall relative to a inaccurate display message appearing stating a defective catalytic converter. Since I'm over an hr from my closest Ford dealer, I'm ignoring both these recall notices for now. I have the Platinum extended warranty and fortunately only had to use it once for a front pinion seal leak. So far I've received (4) recalls on my Limited; 1) fire from shorted power box 2) wiper arm falling off 3) brake line failure 4) catalytic converter message

Thanks HazBeen for the heads-up on the brake line recall info. I will check our 2024 Expy MAX Limited tomorrow morning and confirm that all is good down there. Thanks again much, Lance

2023 Limited I got the tip of my index finger between the housing and cable. Clips are seated both sides. I think I'm good to go. Camera angle / depth of field makes it look tighter than it is.IMG_0677.jpeg

The recall has to do with positioning of a brake line. I don't see a brake line in your photo.

I saw the recall in the FordPass app day before yesterday. Called the dealer and am taking it in tomorrow at 08:00. While it's all well and good that we can check it out ourselves, I'm one for letting the dealer do what they are getting paid for by the manufacturer to verify and repair as needed.

They sent me a recall but looking I literally have many inches of clearance. Maybe the Timberline airbox and pipes are different.

I checked mine before dropping it off for service a few days ago. Mine was good- maybe 12mm but not inches. Are you sure you're looking at the right area?

I inspected our 2022 Expy Limited with 20k miles. The clip holding the brakeline had separated from the engine bay body and the brakeline was almost touching the air tube. I snapped the clip holding the brakeline back into the body of the engine bay. This brought the brakeline about 1" away from the air hose. Good to go so long as the clip does not fall off again. Just FYI....the tension on that brakeline is pretty tight and under considerable load.

Even though I inspected mine and it was fine, I was due for oil and tire rotation so I brought it to Ford. They inspected and passed it. The service manager said this issue is very, very rare, but because it can cause such an unsafe condition it is absolutely necessary to inspect every single vehicle. Hopefully everyone gets this inspection done asap...

What sucks for Ford is all of the "by the way"s that result from such a simple recall. We've got probably half a dozen items that are minor annoyances that we keep deferring due to the hassle of giving up the vehicle. We have plenty of clearance on this brake line, but since we're taking it in anyway, here you go dealer - take care of all these other warranty items while you have it.

here’s how mine went…
Inspector: looks good
Me: how do you know? What is the issue?
Inspector: it’s not leaking. No leak, so it’s ok.
Me: ah. I see.

I chose to look deeper and I can see that the brake like wants to pull to the center of the engine. And the plastic clip on mine partially worked its way out. I suppose it’ll be a fastener and/or a replacement brake like not under stress as a solution to the problem.
