My 2021 exp warranty just lapsed and I have extended. I took her to dealership as it was choking a little when accelerating, after a day they said nothing was wrong with it…I got my car back and driving it home I realize the screen is not working no visual no audio. I took it back and they said it would cost $1700 to replace audio module? First what a coincidence!! That this went out…the same day I took it in..second $1700? Why? Why would it be an audio module when the screen is out? And is there anything I can do about it?

Thank you!!

You can try performing a hard reset on the SYNC System, I've done this before and it worked:

- Press and hold the Power button and the "seek right" button for 10 seconds.

You can try the hard reset, or disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and reconnecting, just to reset everything. Sounds like they're talking about the Sync module being faulty. You can get a refurbed unit from online suppliers and do it yourself if you have any skill at all. Tell them your vehicle VIN and they will program it to your vehicle. If you have a laptop and the ForScan app you can look at the APIM module and see what kind of errors it's reporting and possibly reset it.

I feel your pain, but that price seems to be typical nowdays....

The whole touchscreen/audio/gps system and the modules had to be replaced in my wife's 17 Acadia back in Dec 24, total parts & labor: $2553.....thankfully they were able to get the parts in a few days, and we had an extended warranty that covered it.

As a side note, we only paid $3K for the warranty, so this repair alone almost paid for that :D

They said my extended warranty didn’t cover it..I’m more angry that they said they had nothing to do with it going out the same day they were doing diagnostic tests for my car choking, and thumping etc I’m sure it’s related..

I have a 2018 xlt with the 4.2” screen. My APIM went out and tried all the resets, reprogramming, even replaced the original battery. Nothing worked. I got a remanned APIM on eBay from Revamp My Ride for $300 without NAV. Just put your VIN and size of your display in the buyers notes and its plug and play. I installed it myself. Plenty of videos on YouTube show how to replace the APIM. Took me about an hour, but probably would take someone else with more experience less time. It works great and I don’t work for them. Definitely the best deal I could find.

Actually I didn’t try reprogramming not even sure you can do that. I tried the software update. You go on some Ford website and download the software update on a USB drive and then plug it into your USB port under the dash bevel. The APIM that I just replaced would come once a week or so, so when it turned on we plugged the USB drive into the port for like 30 minutes with the expedition running. Updating the software did not work either.
