Vehicle started, drove a couple hundred feet down driveway then stopped. Warning "Shift Sys Fault" & can not shift out of park. Dial does rotate into R, N, & D with blinking light but doesn't actually shift out of park. Tried hard battery reset (didn't work), checked fuses (look fine), & tried shift lock override (didn't work). Going to plug into ODB scanner in the morning & possibly check transmission shift linkage bushings & solenoid. Possibly needs new brakes (brake dust on wheels). Brake fluid is low/empty - local auto shop said not to waste money on DOT4 before replacing brakes but that was about 2 weeks ago. Wondering if its just the brake fluid or if there's a common issue with this & a specific fix? Thanks in advance.

I did a google search on this error. Below is what could be your issue as well...? Below is the copy and paste.. and link to tge post ..This was from a 2017 Ford Fusion

"Last week the electronic dial shifter stopped working on my 2017 Fusion. The dash said 'shift system fault - service required' and the car wouldn't move. I found that the shifter cable was detached from the transmission because the plastic retainer was gone. I called the dealer and they said it's a known problem and a new retainer was available for $1. I bought one and was able to install it in the driveway in less than 5 minutes. See attached pics. Hope this helps someone else avoid a tow."

Thank you @SyndicateZ . I was looking into this & found some youtube videos on where its located & how to change it in other ford models but I am unable to find if my vehicle has this. Can't even see one under the hood.
