So you're not supposed to change the radio?

I like to use crutchfield as a general"check"to see what available and they apparently have nothing that fits the expedition. It's pretty much like my 2019F150, same size... pretty much same buttons. Has no one come up with anything in the aftermarket except those junk Tesla style giant tablet infotainment screens?

Not sure how Crutchfield is not giving options. I've had no issues.

A little low on my priority list, but I'm eyeing this sucker up. Maybe after the holidays (got three kids that get more $$$ with each passing year...).

All said and done, the neccessary accessories add a bit to the total.

Very interesting... idk if mine being a 21 and with the B&O system changes things.. but I'm going to look into it. Thanks. I'm actually putting a Kenwood in my F150, I've been a pioneer guy for YEARS but wanted to switch it up on this build.

Might be. I'm non-B&O in this case. I haven't tried to see if that makes the difference.

Are those Tesla style screens actually garbage or do you just not like the look? I don’t know anything about them but have seen a couple options recently.

I have a 2019 and a 2020 no BO. Crutchfield says the 2019 can be upgraded to a aftermarket, but says the 2020 factory radio cannot be replaced

I've seen waaaaaay too many of those work for a few weeks and then take a dump. Some people go through several of them before they get a good one or end up going back to normal radio.

The radios are significantly integrated with the electronics of the truck. Everything is carried as data over two-wire low voltage networks to other modules controlling body, lighting, steering and engine functions. This integration has become more intertwined with each generation of truck.

Replacing the radio and expecting it to play nice and properly communicate with the other computers is quite a stretch, especially considering the "universal" nature of these Chinese electronics on the market today.

I suppose many of the aftermarket radio manufacturers and dealers have simply given up after years of poor longevity, quality control and grumpy customers.

I had one of those Tesla style setups in my previous Expy - Autotecpro. They're basically the same thing everywhere you look.

It's basically an overlay replacing the OEM screen and bezel. The APIM and other hardware is swapped over to the new unit. What this does is take over from the APIM with it's own OS. If sound quality is something that your after, this is not it. Aside from that, I didn't have any major issues with it for the time I had it.

I had one of the Tesla style like the Autotec pro in my 21 Expy. Had to pull it and send back because it caused issues with the HVAC which caused my blend door actuator to malfunction and break. Also the stop/start button no longer worked. Be careful with these because behind the scenes they are actually programmed for the F150 canbus which is similar but there are some differences which will eventually cause issues for you. Ended up installing the OEM back in the vehicle and all is working as it should now. May look into the Infotainment.com solution they have but it's a bit more pricey.

Yeah best to buy the absolute top of the line radio system from the factory on day one. For retrofit, basically all you can do is upgrades speakers all around and add a powered subwoofer. My 2023 Expo said "B&O sound" on the window sticker and figured that was the same top of the line stereo that was in my 2022 F-150. WRONG! This radio and especially the speakers is crap. Shame on B&O for putting their name on this garbage. Shame on Ford for such a garbage system on an $80,000 SUV.
The other thing you can do is buy the system that disables the cockpit noise suppression system. That takes a significant bite out of the sound quality if you like it played loud.
