Strange Clicking Noise

I drive a 2017 EL Limited. In the past few weeks an unusal clicking sound has been happening off and on when either starting the engine or after I have shut the engine off. It sounds as if its coming from somewhere around the center dash area, or the firewall area under the hood. It doesn't happen often, and restarting the engine seems to make it stop for a day or so. Any ideas?

One or more of your HVAC system actuators are defective. There are numerous posts on this forum about them and how to change them. Some are easy to access, some require partial dash disassembly. A Ford scanner can retrieve any HVAC code(s) to determine which one is bad.

Issues with the HVAC system (heat not working, mode selector not working, system only operations on one side if a dual-zone system, etc.) may point you to the defective one.

interesting i've also had clicking noises happening for quite a while, and the heat/cold function of passenger side front doesn't always work in the truck past few months. we have AC die leak around one of the lines and shop said the compressor is showing that die as well when looking at it with UV light, they suggested replacing the AC compressor. haven't decided what to do yet, that will be a little over a thousand dollars with parts and labor.
