Does anyone know if this applies to 2015-2017 (Gen 3B)
If I recall correctly (from my 2015 Expedition) the reset occurs when the vehicle is parked locked (engine off) for more than 8 hours.

The battery can be paired with a scanner but when I replaced the battery on my wife's car this is how I did it. I don't know if this works for an Expedition but you can Google it.I have a 2019, and while the battery seems fine (had zero issues) as noted by the OP, it simply ‘stopped working’. So how is a battery pairing performed?
I've changed the battery 2X in my 2017, and did not know about the battery reset process. Both times the battery was out of the vehicle for 5 or more hours and I had no issues. This is from page 252 of the 2017 owners manual.I had a 2015 also. Put a new battery in it. Didn't do any battery reset procedure. I guess it sat long enough to reset on its own.
