Your vehicle comprehensive insurance should cover any glass breakage, minus your deductible.

Some insurance, like mine, waive deductible for glass repair or charge a flat fee regardless of what glass broke. Some point you to cheaper shops or mobile ones, depending on break/preference. YMMV, but worth a call to insurance to check damage waiver.

The deductible-waiver is often encouraged and used by insurance companies to have the glass repaired via an epoxy injection method, instead of glass panel replacement.

I have a zero-deductible for my glass breakage coverage, so i would never have the glass repaired.

Glass breakage coverage usually covers broken glass that is caused by any method.

never replaced one on an expedition but i have on the new super-duties. if you go inside and looking up to wear the glass would connect to the sun roof track there should be 3 or 4 torx screws that hold it in place on each side. if theres a rubber cover then just remove it. it just clips off. remove the screws and the glass should come out. and when putting it back in just make sure the glass is flush with the roof otherwise you'll get wind noise or a water leak

So here's the latest. Insurance Comp will cover it, I have to pay the deductible.

Not sure how the glass broke. Looks like a rock/debris might have dropped on it. I do not remember it happening. I am in Orlando and there is major highway work happening and it could have come from any number of things.

I spoke to an independent glass specialist and he confirmed the price. He said only Ford sells that glass. Also he said that the whole sunroof assembly has to be taken apart and removed to replace the glass. Not sure about that, but he wasn't trying to sell me on anything.

Anyways, it sucks but I guess things could be worse. I could be cooped up at home worrying about a global pandemic...oh crap, nevermind!

I had to order one from a Ford dealer for about $650 and changed it in less than an hour. Most of that time involved cleaning up the shards of glass that went everywhere. Six screws, three to a side hold the assembly in place. It's a drop-in replacement. The BS story about having to remove "an entire assembly" doesn't really apply to Ford sunroofs but can certainly be the case with other makes.

I thought for sure I had some but no, not a thing. Just one of the collision wrap I drove around with for two weeks while my new part was shipped.

If you slide back the inside cover you'll see three torx screws on each side of the metal rails. That's all that holds the assembly in place. It's easier to visualize when you have the new part first because it comes pre-assembled. The hardest part is getting all the broken glass out so the new one slides easily.

Correction. It's only four screws. Clearly visible in this photo. That's all it takes to remove the sunroof assembly. The replacement part is a direct drop in part.
