In order to power a Garmin, I am installing a switched 12v power outlet in the dash top pocket on my 2018 Platinum. I intended to tap into the cab fusebox, however nothing there seems to be switched. Next I thought I might find an unused switched power underneath the front seat since I don’t have rear seat video. None was evident. Is there a better option than wiring it to factory outlet on the dash? I would rather not go through the firewall.

Check this out , they may have a suitable connector for you. I just installed a dash cam using a camera installation kit (check these out too) and was able to find a switched fuse in passenger side fuse box. (To ride piggyback on)However, my Expy is a 2019 so yours maybe different.

Sorry for the late reply, I am out fishing: I think I used #37 for permanent 12V and fuse #30 for the accessory power which turns on with the Ignition. There is a large Ground Terminal also on the A Pillar. Please verify with a voltmeter as I don't have access to my notes right now. (passenger side footwell Fuse box)

Thanks. I checked several fuses again after your reply, but none were switched. Not sure if I checked #30. I'll give that a try. Hope you caught your limit.

I used the mirror tap kits for both a camera and my radar detector. I also for a larger circuit found a switched 12V supply on the heated steering wheel module, directly under the steering column, that I used with a relay for more available power.

Number 37 fuse is for heated wheel and is switched. It’s the only one I found. Dickheaded shop the dealer used to install dvd used the one for the camera system and ****** up all sorts of stuff on that circuit. I had to find a work around and that was it. The computer limits the amps, something I find weird since that is what the fuse does, but it’s the way it is. So I never have been able to use the wheel heat and the dvd, only one or the other. Have to run the fuse for the one I want and not both, in the fuse tap.

Thanks. Do you remember which fuse you used?
Sorry to mislead you in my previous response. I reversed the numbers. The yellow wire (fuse 37) is the accessory power(switched) and the red (fuse30) is constant power. I tried all functions with camera rolling, everything works as intended.20240725_165149.jpeg20240725_165033.jpeg20240725_153427.jpeg

You are right , was my mistake fuse 37 is ACC power. I just tried heated steering wheel this morning and everything seems to be working fine. Again, on 2019 platinum with Rove camera and installation kit
