Has anyone had a positive post-rebuild experience with their 10R80 transmission? I keep seeing posts from people here saying it ended up being the same or worse...

If so, when was the rebuild done? And was it definitely with the redesigned parts?

Mine is being done under warranty but just waiting on the backordered redesigned parts. And now I'm wondering if I'm walking into a mistake...

My rebuild in October of 2023 was good for about 10-12k miles, and had the updated parts at that time. By spring 2024 it was shifting rough again and Ford replaced the trans with a factory crate transmission in October 2024 that was just as bad. One would assume the crate transmission had new style parts, but maybe ford had a million bad ones left and needed to use them to? I traded it in 2,000 miles later. Hope for the best on the rebuild, and if it still shifts badly I’d take the first chance to get rid of it.

Mine is still OK after last year's replacement (mostly) but I only have about 8k miles on it since then. It still doesn't shift as smooth as a 6R80 and nowhere near the trans in my 1998 Crown Vic.

Rebuild 1, October 2023.

Can't find rebuild #2 from 2/2024 paperwork but it was a valve-body rebuild as I recall.

Replacement 7/2024.

I have about a year and 60k miles left on my "service plan," so we'll see how the next year goes.

So I just got it back, and it's shifting as smooth as silk.

For the transmission, the notes show no codes were found, but delays were noticeable between 3-4-5-6 and 7-8. When they pulled the transmission apart they found:
  • Sticking valves
  • Spun CDF hub sleeve
  • Damaged F clutch cylinder splines
  • Damage to at least one friction plate on every clutch pack
All this is to say, the fact no codes are showing does not mean there isn't a problem. Which is probably why Ford corporate changed their diagnosis tree on this issue.

They also replaced the water pump, one of the valve covers (cracked) and the other valve cover gasket (leaking). All under the original powertrain warranty thankfully.

This is a crazy amount of problems for a 5 year old vehicle, but I guess all the manufacturers are suffering similar problems - even the much vaunted Toyota.

Exactly the same as @Ugh_J rebuild #1 on my 2019 F150. Seemed better after it was done until I purchased this 2021 Expedition with 13k miles on it. The comparison is nuts! The expedition is buttery smooth while the F150 is a bit jerky when cold.

You get a 2 year warranty, unlimited miles with the repair. At least I did… I might return it for a 20k mile flush and valve body under the warranty.

Experienced the same issue with my 2020 Expedition XLT. Had the vehicle in and tested. No codes found but had the hesitation shifting when cold in the low speed shift range. Over haul was done 6/2025 with 45k. Covered under Ford Protect Warranty. Replaced all parts that you posted. Except for the Torque Converter. It seems to me friction parts floating around in the fluid was just added precaution. Have about 1k since repair and shifts great. One added feature was added to my Ford Rewards was 45k points. I haven't any issues for repair of vehicle with that low mileage. Although having the extended warranty is a break even point. I have better than a year left for coverage and I don't foresee hitting 125k in this timeframe. So realistically I don't have any complaints about this vehicle. I have updated parts ( front and rear sway bars, End links, front and rear shocks ) to enhance the riding comfort. Although costly I don't regret the upgrades for riding stability and comfort.
