Summary

Issue:
Some of the vehicles listed in the Model statement above may exhibit at least one of the following conditions:

• Harsh engagement
• Delayed engagement
• Harsh shift
• Delayed shift
• Illuminated MIL with DTCs P0751, P0752, P0756, P0757, P0761, P0762, P0766, P0767, P0771, P0772, P2700, P2701, P2702, P2703, P2704, P2705, P2707, P2708, P0729, P0731, P0732, P0733, P0734, P0735, P0736, P076F, P07D9, P07F6 and/or P07F7 stored in the PCM or TCM

This may be due to axial movement of the CDF clutch cylinder (7H351) sleeve causing hydraulic circuit leaks.

NOTE: If internal transmission service is required to address a concern detected with the CDF clutch cylinder following this article, technicians should carefully inspect and replace other transmission components and flush transmission fluid cooler only as necessary to confirm proper function. Add a new line to the repair order to document any additional repairs needed. M-time can be claimed on the additional repair line to cover labor. Refer to Warranty and Policy Manual for additional information. A thorough understanding of transmission description and operation will assist the technician with proper diagnosis, inspection, and successful repair of the customer concern.

NOTE: The Pressure Vacuum Transducer Kit (Rotunda 164-R9833) and VCMM Transmission Extension Kit (Rotunda 164-R9534) recommended to perform this article are no longer included with the VCMM Advanced Kit (Rotunda 164-R9823), and were discontinued in July 2023. Ford has confirmed a high percentage (80%) of Dealers have this equipment available to perform this article. Refer to Table 1 in the Service Procedure for equipment alternatives. In addition, VCMM Universal Probe Tip Adapter (Rotunda 164-R9834, or equivalent) is needed to perform this article. The Probe Tip Adapters are included in VCMM Advanced Kit (Rotunda 164-R9823).

Action: For vehicles that meet all of the criteria in the Issue and Model statements, follow the Service Procedure to verify hydraulic circuit leakage and replace the CDF clutch cylinder (7H351) if necessary.

If it takes 47 steps and 90 parts to complete the diagnosis and repair procedure you're going to perform a few million times around the world in a dozen languages and thousands of dealerships.....you're going to experience a wide variety of collateral damage during execution....just saying.

that's one way of looking at it. I had an Indy mechanic change my trans fluid and filter at 37k. Vehicle was approx 2 qts shy of fluid . Glad I had it done when I did. trans shifts much smoother niow. There was, however, a bit too much silverery slurry in the fluid as far as the mechanic was concerned......maybe had to do with being 2 qts low ???

2 qts low? and the mechanic used to working on highly specialized vehicles designed for easy service in pit row followed the entire sequence of checking the fluid while at operating temp, over and over, without burning him/herself on the cat's? I've serviced tranny and t-cases many times, won't touch this thing. The fluid checking procedure alone is a joke, but remember, it's to save the cost of needing a dip stick.

I had a new tranny put in about 6 months ago, sure hope it had the new CDF design, and that was at 55k miles. good thing these are built to last!

I tell you. This 2019 has been an utter disappointment after having a 1999 with the 5.4 liter. 190k on that truck and only had to do an alternator or two and some coils. Solid as a rock. Now this 2019. At 30k transmission started slipping. First time it happened I bought the extended warranty. Only time I have ever bought that. Glad I did. At 60k it needed a replacement transmission which would have cost me 7k. Toss in a new A/C at $1,500 makes me yearn for my 99 back. What a difference 20 years makes. From a rock to a lemon

Had an 2018 F150 with the 10 speed. Besides the annoying 1-3 and 3-5 shift, the tranny stayed rock solid, no slipping or banging etc. Rocked that thing 6 years for work and was not babying it.
However there is a big difference between the 2018 and the 2024 in my SPP. There tranny does not have the 3-5 shift at all and very little does the 1-3 shift. It also shifts much faster than the old one.
20some years ago, I managed to ruin a 4L80 transmission in a 2500 at 30k.

Experienced the same on my 2019 xlt with 46k on it. In the last 1000 miles I have generally all the time when first driving off when Trans temp is 60° with find it hard to find 3-4 and 4-5 with a Trans stall. Once it does this cycle it performs flawlessly. This happens always first thing on the AM drive. I don't understand other than internals of the Trans. Wonder if others had same situations and remedies.
