I did a tune up today, had bought some “performance” motorcraft injectors for the 5.4 (was originally a mopar project but i think they were the injectors for 16+ v10s?) several years ago and they have been sitting on the shelf waiting for a viable project. Well today the spark plugs and ignition coils were going in so it was time to put the injectors in for a job.
Ran into a problem with the 2 rear spark plugs, there was debris stuck inbetween the plugs and walls and i made the mistake of trying to break the spark plug out (just split the ceramic trying to make room) and got the debris blown out with compressed air before removing the plug. I left the other plug in for now, they looked like theyve gone through some serious heat cycles but the electrodes look fine. The 6-hole injectors seem to do better than the 4-hole injectors that i pulled out, mpgs have gone up by 4 on the lie-o-meter since i swapped everything. No more spark plugs tick either. Gonna get me a k&n drop in or something and call it a day, really enjoying the truck

I just pulled some plugs, getting the rest tomarrow.. 2006.. the motorcraft are all heat scortched, never seen this in any of my cars.
I also learned that the plugs are "9/16" and somewhere else on here they tried to say 9/16 socket plugs were a repaired head...nope, stock plugs same socket.
I am putting in all new coil packs... damn expensive $30 a peace my cost. next time I go to the junkyard, grabbing some spare Ford coil packs.
Harbor freight tool with a couple of U joints, supposedly makes it easy to remove spark plugs in the rear.

Yeah i didn’t have a problem reaching the rear ones, had plenty of room to work with. Too much debris stuck in the holes around the spark plug
