Somebody asked for it.

I have tested 3 tuners on the New Expedition and I ended up back where I always do...ZFG Racing! Adam@ZFG is a Wizard at tuning EcoBoosts. Especially when Ethanol is involved!

I used a Dragy(Very accurate GPS unit built for measuring Straighline runs) for all of my 0-60 runs.

All of these numbers were done on my 2020 Expedition Limited Special Edition Max 4x4 on 22’s. Other than an AFE Dry drop in filter everything else is stock.

Stock on 93(E10): 6.23

Yes, You saw that correctly. The last time was done with full E85 without an upgraded Pump. Basically the Power of E50 without mixing. Makes it much easier to fill up. Just pull up to the Pump and put the orange handle in and pump. Makes it SO much easier for the wife.

For those that say, no way, here you go:

E-85 ?!?

I didn't think you could run that fuel in an eco boost.

My first thought was: How much fun to blow away people at traffic lights in that sleeper!

@LokiWolf has some good numbers but I guarantee that e50 tune he’s running is very conservative. Over time, that fuel pump will not be able to support the needs of straight e85 and he will end up paying for it in the long run. ZFG is a great company and all and definitely right up there with 5 star, but 5 star is at least smart enough to know that bad things happen when fuel pumps are pushed that far beyond their limits. I’m on e30 from 5 star on my 16 and with 35s my logs show me I’m a steady 5.4-5.8 sec 0-60 BUT I’m doing that safely as e30 is max for 6 speed fuel pump. Ask any guy there and they will tell you you aren’t going above e50 on the new 10spd 3.5s without fuel pump upgrade.

hopefully @LokiWolf knows that base tunes are super conservative so his e50 tune is probably actually for e30 and his e85 tune is probably around e50 bc there’s no way that stock pump can support full e85

Yep, I use Ethanol in my Explorer ST, and before that my Edge Sport. I test Every other fill-up. Past 2 tests have been E83, and E84. Lowest I have ever seen at this station is E72, and that was only once. Been using Ethanol at this station for 10 months.

What is peak boost on e85? Has anyone seen a compressor map for the stock turbos somewhere? I would like to see how hard this tune is driving the turbos.

I can look at my logs. A turned back E85 tune like this will run less boost than a race 93 tune.

For clarity, an E50 tune will actually develop more power and boost than this turned back E85 tune.

The advantages of this tune over E50 is no mixing with more power than 93. Makes it MUCH easier for the wife.

To use the full potential of E85 this Motor needs an upgraded pump like the one from XDI.

I will look at peak boost in my logging for the 93 and E85 tunes.

Hahaha! 5Star is not the end all be all on tuning. Just because they don’t know.

I have seen the logs. I am well aware of what it is capable of.

E30 is NOT the max for the 15-17 fuel pump. You can easily go to E50, with the right tuner and gain several 10ths over that 5 Star tune, and be completely safe. ZFG removes none of the safety stuff, full Knock detection is in place unlike other tuners(Not saying 5Star is doing that, because I haven’t heard that from their customers or seen logs).

Even the above E85 Tune isn’t maxing the Pump. Close, but not max. That is why this was logged, over several revisions. This was Rev04.

Is it pushing the Pump harder than Stock tune, Yep! But so does tuning in general. It pushes everything harder.

Again, like I stated, and E50 tune would actually develop more power than this E85 tune.

I am using the turned back E85 tune, to simplify fueling, and get some of the advantages over 93.

This may be the first Expedition running this type of tune, but not the first of this platform. There are MANY 1st and 2nd Gen Motored 150’s running these turned down E85 tunes. I know of one guy over 100K, with 80K+ on this tune.

This isn’t for everybody. I am showing what the platform is capable of.

Do your homework, or like me try more than one tuner and see for yourself.

Hi
I have used LIvernois & now 5 Star for all my tuned ECOBOOST vehicles
Currently have a 2018 Expedition & a 2020 Explorer ST
Running the 5 star 93 octane tune in our EXPY & Explorer
When I use the E30 tune & purchase E51 in our area, performance is phenomenally better than the E93 tune
Occasionally would get a MIL lamp with a lean code under very light throttle conditions though
Fuel trim would be at max
Your tunes must recalibrate for higher fuel trims
Have you checked them to see what they are?
Recently purchased the HPVI 2 & 4 credits from Tuners for my 2020 Explorer ST
Have not used it yet

The 2nd Tuner I had on the Expedition was LMS. Did not like the shifting. They adjusted it a bit, but still wasn’t Happy. Sent my requested changes to the calibrator, and 8 weeks I had still not heard anything back. So I moved on. ZFG’s shifting is spot on!

Adam@ZFG is a Wizard with Ethanol on these EcoBoosts and has some tricks that others haven’t figured out yet.

I use a MPVI2 also. That or the new RTD is what ZFG prefers because of the MUCH better logging capability vs the NGauge.

Here is my E50 0-60 on my Explorer:
