Sorry if this is posted somewhere else but I cannot find anything related to this for the life of me. So I recently bought a 2000 Ford Mustang GT, and the owner said he swapped a 2007 Ford Expedition 5.4L Triton into it, and I am having a hard tome verifying that. By buddy also has a similar year mustang with the stock mother and I can tell the motors are not the same. The engine oil fill hole is on the opposite side of the engine as mine. On my air intake manifold it does say 5.4L Triton. Is there a VIN number anywhere on the engine that I can look up? I can’t find one anywhere? Thanks in advance

Doubtful but anything is possible, my 2007 Expedition EL has the 5.4 Triton. If it’s from a 2007 it would be a 3-valve engine with variable cam timing. To properly run it would have required the ECM for a 5.4 3V to run the variable cam timing and newer injection system. I guess he could have locked the phasers out modified the harnesses/ computers.

Here is my 2007 5.4 3V, the give always are the large aluminum valve covers, style of cast iron manifolds, and the intake. *Edit: sorry you can’t see much under the plastic*

Here, first pic is a 2V valve covers, 2nd pic is a 3V valve cover. Can’t mistake the two as they are different shapes and bolt patterns. 5.4 3V will have large rounded spots for plug wells.

Pictures?
The 5.4L swap can be and has been done. Not really the best way to get more power but some folks come across motors for silly cheap and have some time on their hands.

Here is a picture of my engine bay. Judging by the picture that jexpedition07 posted this is a 2V motor. Could it be an older 5.4 triton motor?

I'm only seeing 6 row serpentine belt and pulleys. This would typically be how it's done as you would keep the same PS and AC comp with the car but the balancer would have 8 for every 1st gen Expedition 5.4 I have seen.
Does it has 8 rows and just has the belt in the proper 6 position?
That's what I would do.
I swapped an 06 6.8 in for a 01 6.8. The 06 has 6 row and 01 had 8. I wanted belt to stay the same so I swapped the balance since in my case I needed it to be wider . Swapped the tensioner and idler too. I could have just used to 6 row belt but then anyone in future would buy wrong one and I had the old one which was still good and kept me from buying a new belt.

That's certainly a 2V engine. Whether or not it's a 4.6 or 5.4 I don't know. Just because he put the 5.4 badge on it, doesn't mean it is. I don't know how to tell the difference between the two, but hopefully someone here does!

Also I hope you didn't pay extra, or a high price for this "5.4" swap, just in case it isn't!
