Hi, I have a 2022 Expedition Max with the 304a SPP package. The other night when on the highway, started to hear a humming noise from the front end and some vibration in the steering wheel. Was happening over 60MPH when giving gas. Almost sounded like the road was not fully paved, so switched lanes and was still happening. Took it to my local mechanic and after looking at it he told me I need to take it to the dealer to be repaired under warranty. He thinks it's a problem with the rear differential and the transfer case and the transfer case is leaking and that the car is not safe to drive because the transfer case could lock up and stop the car. Taking the car to the dealer on Thursday (earliest appointment here in Long Island), but curious if anyone else had this or if this makes sense to anyone.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Donny

Does your Expy have the hd trailer tow and the eLSD? You should have a button to engage / disengage the eLSD where the gear selector is.

I don't have the HD trailer tow and don't think I have a button for the eLSD.

Dealership just called and confirmed the transfer case internals are shot and they are going to replace that under warranty and that is what was causing the vibrations. The rear differential was also leaking and they are going to fix that under warranty as well. Crazy that these things are breaking with under 25k miles on the truck.

I’ve got bad input shaft seal on the rear differential before on a different vehicle, but a transfer case and a leaking rear diff at the same time? At least warranty takes care of it. Did you drive it in 4H on dry pavement or something? Mine drove 700km with 4H in snow all in one day no problems…

We've barely had any snow here in the Northeast since I've owned this vehicle. I've barely been in 4H. Gotta love the Covid Era trucks.

Yeah, I am little further up than you so practically almost the same conditions, just a bit colder. Did you tow the vehicle maybe and didn’t put the transfer case in neutral or tow mode?

I have been battling the same condition on my 22 platinum. Nothing is fixed. Tire rotations, wheel changes, drive shaft re-clocked and changed. I had a feeling it was drive train because its not smooth at all. I will share with them today.
