Hey guys, new here.

We bought a 2020 platinum one owner w/35k miles a few months ago. Absolutely love it.

I noticed the wheel starting to flake (idk how else to describe it). I washed it today at a self car wash and all that thin paint (or whatever it is) came right off. Machined face painted wheels...I went ahead and took off most of it cuz the black doesnt look horrible and it was enevitable.

The truck's now at 38k and we have an extended warranty. I'm probably going to put 24's on it anyway but I wanted to ask your thoughts on if/how Ford might handle this? I can imagine theyll have excuses up the wigwam but given all these wheels (on this truck) seem to have this issue (even the inside of the wheels) I feel that they should replace em. Not sure how or what I could even get for them if I buy new ones either.

I checked with the wheel repair specialists company and they quoted me $200/wheel to refinish. No thx.

Anyone else having this issue?

Thanks,
Stratton

I've heard of Ford replacing defective rims like yours under the BTB warranty. But your vehicle is over in mileage. if you get denied and you decide against 24's; for $200 per wheel, I'd consider powder coating. The staggered spoke wheel design won't show well in an all-black powder coat finish, but they might look better (see all of the spokes) in a titanium or lighter shade of powder coat.

I did not realize that the paint could be blown off the wheels at the car wash! I will be super careful in the future.
One might think Ford would stand behind something such as that.

I always thought powder coat was applied to the wheels at factory under a clear coat? Either way, very poor adhesion. Hope they make it right.
