Wireless charger overheating iPhone

Have you tried placing the phone in a different orientation? Could it be something as simple as the coil alignment between the charger and the phone causing it to struggle to maintain the connection and generate extra heat? The higher temp explains the slower charging rate, the phone is likely throttling charge current back to keep it within safe operating levels. I dont have a car with factory wireless charging so no experience there. I am however about to add wireless charging in 3 different places in my 2003 so I'm not foreign to the subject.

Try another iPhone 8, surely a friend or co worker has one. If the results aren't duplicated I would suspect your particular device as the issue.
