Hi all,

I want to make sure my Ts and Is are crossed and dotted here.

These are both for the expedition max.

I’m picking up a 22 XLT that is optioned out of the butt. MSRP is somewhere like $76K. I was comparing it to a Limited I found with an MSRP of $72k. The XLT has 30k miles, Limited 45k miles. Both clean, non-rental (personal use) carfaxes with consistent oil changes. But somehow the XLT is cheaper by almost $5k.

XLT has options like the HD towing package, performance package, and 3.73 rears.

I printed out both window stickers and the only three options the Limited has that the XLT does not have is a hands-free lift gate, power folding mirrors, and one up-down all windows versus only driver/passenger of XLT. I also compared photos and visually you can’t tell the difference since they’re the same color minus very minor details.

How is the Limited justified in price more? Seems like it should be the opposite, no?

BUT just to make sure everything is checked off, I’ve picked out an ESP. It has a build date of 09/2022 so after what I’ve read about 08/2022. Is there anything at all that I need to continue to consider?

Is this just a “lucky” XLT that some mad lad optioned out for giggles? Because I see no reason why they wouldn’t have chosen a Limited unless it was cheaper to max out an XLT on options versus adding say a towing package on the Limited.

Various trim levels have certain standard features. The limited has more standard features than the XLT model.

If you are comparing line-item options on the original window stickers, you may not realize that the limited model has more standard features.

You may be able to do a search online for the original standard items for both trim levels.

Put it this way, if you are trying to save 5K, then get the XLT. In 24 my Limited SPP doesn’t have the hands free power lift gate either. I wouldn’t buy an Expy without the HD trailer package and the eLSD, at least for the area where I live in. Constant up and downs noting much flat and always a wind.

Try this to see the differences between Trims:

The Order Guide (link posted above by @East-TN) is the way to make this comparison.

Here's a screen capture of the first page of the 2022 Limited section in the Order Guide. Note that Limiteds got everything that was in XLTs with the 202A package plus this list:

Now that I’m taking another look, the weirdest thing is - this XLT has ALL of those in the options section of the window sticker minus hands free lift gate, power folding mirrors, and the grille.

Very odd

Ford, like many auto manufacturers, were still dealing with parts shortages in 2022 that resulted from the COVID-19 pandemic. I recall hearing that some features, like hands-free lift gate, were deleted, sometimes with credit to the customer or a promise to add the feature when parts became available.

Want to post the stickers, so the rest of us can take a look?

Also, like @DieselMonk said, ELSD is a requirement. It is the one best single feature on the Expeditions. Honestly in most cases I wish my 150 had it. Hard off roading, the ELD in the 150 is better, but general road conditions like snow and ice, the ELSD is amazing. Locked(via clutches) when it needs it, and not when it doesn't. It just works! I miss it.

While not exactly what you’re looking for, I just traded my ‘22 XLT (that was pretty loaded for an XLT) for a ‘24 limited.

Here’s what I noticed about the limited:
- Better suspension (I have the CCD)
- More cameras
- Adaptive cruise control
- Improved lane keeping
- Seats are better
- Heated 2nd row seats
- LED daytime running lights
- LED taillights

So while some of this items might be because it’s a ‘24, but it's an idea of what some of the differences are.

What was the “performance package”? Everything i have read says it was an option only on the Limited.
