    2005 only have first gear

I haven't started yet but been doing a lot of research since there were no responses. First off, I hooked up my laptop and there were no codes. From what I've been able to gather, it is either a shift solenoid or the main gear pack. I am going to drop the pan. If it is still a nice clear...

    2005 only have first gear

Last night, pulling normal from a stop light, went through first gear and it was shifting to second. At the shift to second I had a sort of pop feeling go through the vehicle. I looked down and saw the tach was rev'ed up and I'm not moving any faster. I figured I'd blown a trans cooler line...

No 4Hi or 4Lo, but do have auto

Thanks for the offer. I sent a PM. Nothing I like better than going into the details. I used to have access to a couple of online libraries with detailed manuals but they closed the free access. The really good ones are way out of my price range for only working on my own vehicles.

No 4Hi or 4Lo, but do have auto

I saw that post previously in my searching, thanks. I didn't want to write a book on everything and bore people when all I really wanted was to know if the link I have about rebuilding Explorer transfer switch motors was relatable to the Expedition, i.e. how close are they in design. If not...

No 4Hi or 4Lo, but do have auto

Hasn't worked since I got it 7 years ago. Never bothered me until it became my last running 4x4. Didn't work a year ago when I was sure electricity was leaving the fusebox. All the simple things were checked up to the transfer case switch. Anyone work on that?

No 4Hi or 4Lo, but do have auto

I had the fusebox off and went through the whole thing a year ago, mostly for fuel system issues, but I checked the 4WD at the time as well. Since the A4WD works, then I don't think the shift motor is sticking. In the Explorer article, they show a plastic spacer/washer wears out not letting...

No 4Hi or 4Lo, but do have auto

Ok, I went through everything on the front end and the IWE is all running correct. Had it up on jack stands and when I put it in either of the 4 settings the fronts lock and off they free wheel. When I put it in 4Hi or 4Lo, the light on the dash doesn't come on (does during start sequence...

    Rear storage ideas

I want to get a container that will fit behind the third seat to put in some tools, the hitch, jumper cables, etc. Not too big or heavy that my wife can't move it when she needs to. I thought I'd ask and see what other people have used before I go shopping for one. I had a cargo net across to...

    Thoughts on Alternator diodes

Thanks. That is what I thought but I wanted some confirmation. I just wanted to make sure the alternating current reading was all vehicles or if it would vary by make/model and type of alternator with this reading being normal for an Expedition. I never had one do this before(that I can...

    Thoughts on Alternator diodes

I got a code for the bank 2 cam position sensor. I had bought a new one on the bank one and hadn't gotten around to the bank 2, so I got a new one. Code came back. I swapped 1 for 2 and checked the ground wire had conductivity which was fine. Then I got a misfire on plug 2. Swapped plug 1...

2005 Oil Pan Removal, need no hands wrench holder

So, here's what I did. I cut up a Pepsi can and made a small rectangle the width of one of the flats on the socket, inserted it in and bent it over the outside. I then tapped the socket onto the bolt and it was then super tight and would not fall off on its own. I then laid a piece of plywood...

2005 Oil Pan Removal, need no hands wrench holder

Would get a new impact but I won't have the extra funds to get one for a couple of weeks. Just want an idea from what other people have done in the situation of needing a hands free holder for their wrench or ratchet. If I don't have one by morning, I'll just be doing a 1/16 turn, have the...

2005 Oil Pan Removal, need no hands wrench holder

The ratchet is lifetime warrantied, so no worry about breaking. The problem is, as soon as I get it the tiniest bit loose, the bolt is then loose and moves causing the socket on that side to fall away. The cross-member must have taken a few hits with the previous owner, so the bolts have a...

2005 Oil Pan Removal, need no hands wrench holder

So, I was doing my cam phasers and dropped a screw down into the oil pan, d'oh! Anyway, I had wanted to drop the oil pan before that had happened to make sure the pickup was clean, just doing it a little sooner. I'm having a hell of a time with the cross member bolts. Maybe my impact is...

Adding AUX or USB port to 2002 Expedition EB factory stereo

I'm going to do this on mine. Been searching for months for an actual radio schematic with no luck. I'm going to swap out the 12v power outlet at the front of the center console for a combination USB/Auxiliary for power and connection to phone/tablet/digital Walkman so that I'm not having a...
