Looking for the largest tire for stock wheels

Just an update on the 285/70/17 tires that I have. Still have them on and still no problems. I'll be coming up on 2 years on these set of tires in August. Just thought you all might want to know in case any of you had concerns about the "bead" issue with wider tires on stock size wheels.

Looking for the largest tire for stock wheels

Re: Is a 285/75/17 Possible? A 285/75/17 will mount on the stock wheels. However, the problem will be clearance now. Running a higher aspect ratio (75) on stock wheels, you will definitely rub on something. Check the picture in my previous post. With mudflaps, I'm already slightly...

Looking for the largest tire for stock wheels

Just as I thought. No rubbing on the frame of the truck, just rubbing on the mud flap and it's minor. Here is a pic if anyone is interested.

Looking for the largest tire for stock wheels

The tires do not rub at full lock, they seem to rub when I partially turn the wheel. I haven't had time to check, but I think it's the tires rubbing against the aftermarket mud flaps that I have. Nothing serious though. I see no damage on the tire or the mudflaps. I'll check it more...

Tire Update Just a tire update again. Nothing spectacular to report. Tires are holding up fine. Approximately 55,000 miles on the truck now. Vehicle has done several 400+ miles trips already with no problems.

    Eddie Bauer vs. NBX

The front skid plate is the easiest part to put on. It's been awhile and I don't remember the part numbers, but a parts dealer should know the part number and the associated bolts you'll need. The transmission shield is easy to do as well, a one piece shield and the associated bolts, nuts and...

    Eddie Bauer vs. NBX

You can get the Eddie Bauer and add the skid plate, fuel tank shield and transmission shield. You could either upgrade the shocks right away and wait 50000 miles later and upgrade then. I added the skid plate, fuel tank and transmission shield. Haven't gotten around to replacing the...

Looking for the largest tire for stock wheels

Just an update. The tires are rolling fine. Some slight rubbing issues when turning, but very, very, very, very slight. Nothing to get worried about and definitely not rubbing on any major component. The one thing is this tire size has made the speedometer much more accurate (compared it to...

Alignment for an '03 and above EXPY

Thanks. Was able to get the front end alignment performed. Went okay.

    Rear swaybar on '03 EXPY

While I was getting my tires mounted, I noticed the rear swaybar (for some reason, never paid attention to it). Forgive the crappy cell phone picture, but you get the idea. That is the smallest, skinniest swaybar I've ever seen. It's skinnier than swaybars I've seen on sedans. Has...

Alignment for an '03 and above EXPY

Just wondering if anyone has had alignment performed on their '03 or higher Expeditions? I know on our '98 Naviagator, camber plates needed to be added to adjust camber (wasn't adjustable when stock). At least, that's what I rememer (something needed to be purchased and added in order to...

Looking for the largest tire for stock wheels

Yes, a 285/70/17 tire has no problems mounting onto a 17x7.5 wheel. Granted, for a 285 size tire, 7.5 inches is the lowest you can go. I've seen others do it and Discount Tire Rep said they've done it in the past, but a company policy was supposedly handed down from on high that they...

Looking for the largest tire for stock wheels

The stock wheel size on a Ford Expedition is 17x7.5 The stock tire size is 265/70/17. With that said, the largest tire you can mount on that size wheel is 285/70/17 I just recently installed tires on our truck (08-19-06) and ran into a problem. I had purchased the tires on...
