Hello Everyone,

I recently bought 07 Expedition EL Limited with 114k miles on it. I have noticed the engine oil gauge does not stay in the middle. Its like 60% to 70%. Dealer said he changed the oil when i bought it. I drove like 800 miles. Is it normal on if it is on 60-70 % level. should,'t oil pressure gauge stay in middle in ideal scenario? Oil level on dip stick is fine. I have attached the picture. IMG_0673.JPG Thanks

Looks like about where my 08 runs.

Think the gauge is basically a glorified idiot light. It tells you that yes, you have oil pressure. That's about it.

And by the way, it's an oil PRESSURE gauge, not oil temp.

Unfortunately, like sjwelds said the oil pressure gauge isn't a real, functioning gauge. It is indeed a fancy looking "idiot light" that only indicates whether oil pressure is present. If it drops below a per-determined level, a warning should go off.

As stated it does not really show oil pressure, it just indicates if there is pressure or not, it doesn”t show how much pressure, the gauge only has 2 positions, 0 or about 70%. If you need or want to know the actual pressure you need to fit an aftermarket gauge..

Its a low number that makes it tell the gauge it has pressure.. its either 6 or 8 psi that puts it up on cluster as having pressure

Why have gauge, that does not read proper? Ford needs to change this. 3/4 on the gauge, to me, says its low(mine is same also). Imagine if a gas gauge that did this? Get rid of them or put a working, accurate one in .

Been like this forever. It's styling, nothing more. The days of needing to scan the instrument panel once every minute to detect potential problems are long gone for us that did it and few of us did. Same with the battery "gauge" that doesn't seem to show voltage. My '07 had these "gauges" but they're lacking and I don't miss either on my '17.

Why do these trucks (and many cars) come with a tachometer? Yep, styling. I've not had it showing in the display for weeks as there are more useful things to display in that area.

The computer will flash the oil pressure if it gets too low and since this rarely happens if there's sufficient oil in the engine we'll never see it. I'm trying to think of a car with a legit oil pressure gauge. Go or NoGo is binary but really all we need.
