So my rear end was shot in my 98 EB, a friend had an 01 XLT that he was scrapping so I took the front and rear differentials, swapped out the rear last fall, and since now I need bearings and a half shaft I decided to tackle putting in the front dif. Only swapping because the new rear has 3.55s instead of the 3.73s I had. So, I got my dif out and noticed the actuator on mine, which the dif from the parts truck doesnt have. So now Im like wtf? All I can figure is that truck was an AWD truck. Would I be correct in that? And if so, what are my options? I obviously dont want AWD. Is there any way to swap the awd internals into my case? Will the 3.55s fit? Ive never put in gears etc so not sure what all would be involved if its possible, Ive heard about backlash etc, with an existing set being swapped would I even need to worry about that kind of stuff?

Anyway, off track, what are my options? Thanks

I believe 99 and up are awd, I know my 2000 is awd. I couldn't tell you if any parts are swappable. New vehicles unlike ones from the 60's thru 80's aren't as swappable on parts. Too many electrical sensors, and different sized parts make different year exchanges more and more difficult. Everything ties into the computer, one way or another. It boils down to how trick you are, as we used to say back in the day. Anything can be bypassed, or made to work. Fortunately some of our members have swapped out just about every part on these vehicles. They've done all the Frankenstein part swapping for you. Did the beast come to life and breathe again, and walk, or in this case roll right down the road. Like Johnny Cash sang, its a 53, 54, 55 automobile!

Haha right on! Im thinking about just taking out the gears, dropping the front driveshaft and throwing it in. Were moving to florida at the end of July, dont really think Ill need the 4wd down there, only real reason I wanted it was so when the end of this things life rolls around I can take it in the woods and have some fun with it lol

They are large targets! You could put shooting sheets on all 4 doors, and see which of your other three buddy's, or you tags the most bullseye! I'd lay off the rear hatch though, but far enough back, and hit that 26 gallon tank just right, and could be the best fourth of July 2022 ever down in Florida! Throw in a few gator's, and I don't mean Lincoln, could be a fun time for all.
